Fantasy football Week 10 waiver wire pickups: Duke Johnson, Curtis Samuel - New York Post

susilangs.blogspot.com

It will be another busy week for waivers as managers seek replacements likely for Christian McCaffrey, David Johnson, David Montgomery and any players on the Jets, Chiefs, Cowboys and Falcons, all of whom have a Week 10 bye.

Below you will find players at each position who are all rostered in fewer than 50% of leagues that are worth targeting this week on the waiver wire.

Players are ranked by roster percentage on Yahoo and all fantasy points are calculated in half PPR scoring.

Quarterbacks

Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns (33% rostered)

Mayfield is on the COVID-19/reserve list as of Tuesday after coming in close contact with a Browns staff member who tested positive and his status remains up in the air. It’s been a disappointing year for Mayfield overall, but if he is able to suit up, he will be well-rested coming off of Cleveland’s Week 9 bye to face Houston’s hapless defense. Managers in need of a Lamar Jackson or Matt Ryan one week fill-in could do worse than Mayfield in Week 10.

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (24%)

Some were quick to write Tagovailoa off after a shaky first NFL start opposite Aaron Donald and the Rams. He bounced back in Arizona. Tagovailoa completed 20 of 28 attempts for 248 yards and two touchdowns and had seven rushes for 35 yards. He is also a solid bye week fill-in against the Chargers, who keep finding new ways to lose football games.

Running backs

Gus Edwards, Baltimore Ravens (37% rostered)

As much as fantasy managers would love it if John Harbaugh were to commit to one running back, it doesn’t look like that is going to happen, even down one man in the committee. Edwards split carries with rookie J.K. Dobbins in Week 9 and saw 11 rushes for 23 yards and a touchdown and caught two of two targets for 11 yards. Dobbins tallied 12 carries for 30 yards and two catches for 5 yards. Edwards, who has scored in three straight games, will continue to be involved so long as Mark Ingram remains sidelined and is worth picking up in most leagues.

J.D. McKissic, Washington Football Team (24%)

Antonio Gibson saw the majority of the carries in Sunday’s loss to the Giants, but McKissic made up for it with a whopping 14 targets. He finished the day with three carries for 17 yards and nine catches for 65 yards. He is an interesting flex play week-to-week, especially in PPR formats, and has a mouthwatering three-game stretch coming up: Washington will face the Lions in Detroit, the Bengals at home and the Cowboys on the road, none of whom have fearsome defenses.

Duke Johnson Jr., Houston Texans (16%)

David Johnson exited during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with a concussion. It’s unclear if he will miss time, but in his absence, Duke Johnson was able to put up solid numbers for fantasy. He tallied 16 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown and caught all four targets for 32 yards. He would be in the borderline RB2 conversation if David Johnson misses this week’s matchup in Cleveland and will be a top add this week.

Kalen Ballage, Los Angeles Chargers (1%)

Justin Jackson exited early with a knee injury and was replaced by the former Jet in Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Ballage saw 15 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown and reeled in two of three targets for 15 yards. He was moved back to the practice squad despite the solid game, but could easily be called up again if Jackson isn’t ready for the Chargers’ Week 10 matchup in Miami against Ballage’s former squad. If Jackson sits, Ballage would fall into flex consideration based on workload alone.

Wide receivers

Curtis Samuel, Carolina Panthers (30% rostered)

The Panthers wide receivers present a confusing situation for fantasy managers: By all accounts, D.J. Moore should be the team’s top option, but his target share has been dwindling over the past three weeks while Samuel’s increases. Moore caught two of three passes for 18 yards in Sunday’s loss against the Chiefs. Samuel, meanwhile, reeled in nine of nine targets for 105 yards and a touchdown. He has now scored four times in the last three games and appears to be quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s favorite weapon for now. This week against Tampa could be tough, though the Buccaneers’ secondary was exposed against the Saints in their blowout Week 9 loss.

Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles (24%)

Reagor sat out five games with a thumb injury and returned in Week 8 ahead of the Eagles’ bye. He caught three of six targets for 16 yards and a touchdown and scored a two-point conversion in the team’s win over Dallas. It’s worth mentioning that the Eagles have one of the easier schedules down the stretch: They are set to face the Giants, Browns, Seahawks, Packers, Saints, Cardinals and Cowboys for the remaining weeks of the fantasy season, none of whom have particularly good secondaries. The rookie should see plenty of scoring opportunities in those games as the Eagles limp toward a potential playoff berth in the NFC East.

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots (12%)

Meyers exploded on Monday night against the Jets and caught 12 of 14 targets for 169 yards with Julian Edelman out. He saw more targets than Damiere Byrd, who had five catches on nine targets for 65 yards, and Gunner Olszewski, who caught his lone target for a 1-yard loss. Quarterback Cam Newton did not throw a touchdown, but Meyers is definitely worth an add as the team’s top receiving option. Baltimore’s secondary will be a difficult matchup for Meyers in Week 10, but the game script should favor more passing plays as the Patriots will likely be playing from behind for a sizeable chunk of this game.

Danny Amendola, Detroit Lions (2%)

Amendola quietly had a very nice day with star wideout Kenny Golladay sidelined. He led the Lions in receiving and caught seven of 10 targets for 77 yards, while Marvin Jones caught three of four targets for 43 yards and a touchdown. The Lions face the Washington Football Team, the Panthers and the Texans next, none of whom have strong secondaries. Amendola is widely available and a deeper-league dart throw, so long as Golladay is out, with those favorable matchups on deck.

Tight ends

Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (23% rostered)

Reed disappointed fantasy managers on Thursday night and caught just one of two targets for 3 yards with George Kittle on injured reserve. Ross Dwelley wasn’t fantastic either and caught three of three targets for 52 yards in the team’s blowout loss to the Packers. As long as Reed is healthy, he should have better days ahead as the preferred tight end in San Francisco, including this week in New Orleans.

Irv Smith Jr., Minnesota Vikings (7%)

Smith caught two of four targets for 10 yards, though both catches were touchdowns. He is a boom-or-bust, touchdown-dependent tight end, but is worth a look if you need a Travis Kelce, Hayden Hurst or Dalton Schultz one-week fill-in.
