The 'Portlandia' star is penning the screenplay for the film about the 1980s Seattle band fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson for Amazon Studios.
Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein is writing the screenplay for a music biopic based on the 1980s Seattle rock band Heart, led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Ann Wilson, during an interview with SiriusXM’s Lyndsey Parker, revealed that a script for the biopic from Brownstein — the actress, singer, author, comedian and musician — is in the works for Amazon Studios.
“I can’t tell you all about it, because it’s still being written right now. I saw the first draft of [Brownstein’s] script, and it’s really cool," Wilson said. No director is yet attached to the biopic now in its earliest stages of development and there's no word on casting.
Brownstein first rose to fame as a member of the band Excuse 17 before forming Sleater-Kinney. She later formed the group Wild Flag during a long break from Sleater-Kinney.
The Wilson sisters, pioneers in the female-fueled arena of hard rock, saw Heart break out in 1976 with hit singles "Crazy on You" and "Magic Man."
Both tracks were from Heart’s first album, Dreamboat Annie, which spent 100 weeks on the Billboard chart. They followed with a string of songs that became classic rock staples including "Barracuda," "Heartless," "Even It Up and "Straight On."
