Each week of the NFL season, we will identify fantasy football waiver-wire pickups specifically for those of you looking for streaming options in deeper formats (including IDP leagues). These are players available in a majority of ESPN Fantasy leagues (or close) who have enticing matchups in the week ahead that make them worthy of consideration for your lineup.
While you might notice some overlap with Field Yates' pickup column that publishes on Mondays, an important distinction is that the options mentioned in this column are focused solely on this week's matchup and not the players' values for the remainder of the season.
Do you need replacement options for injured players? Or are you merely dealing with depth issues? A roundtable of fantasy analysts will join me to identify some choice names to consider each week.
Here are some of our favorites for Week 12:
Quarterback
Daniel Jones, New York Giants (17.8% rostered; at Bengals)
A brutal schedule to begin the season saw Jones understandably hit free agency in many fantasy leagues, but it's worth reinvesting in him given a recent surge in rushing success and what bodes as a choice matchup in Week 12. The Bengals are reeling badly on offense now that Joe Burrow is sidelined, which can truly factor into Jones seeing more possessions and better average field position than in previous games. -Jim McCormick
Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (48.7% rostered; at Falcons)
Overcoming a recent statistical swoon with a stellar showing against the Chiefs on Sunday night, Carr has now delivered multiple touchdowns in all but three of his starts this season. Having produced strong lines against the likes of respectable defenses such as Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and twice against Kansas City, it's well within the spectrum of outcomes for Carr to produce yet another big passing line against a Falcons defense yielding the most fantasy points per game to signal-callers this season. -J.M.
Running Back
Gus Edwards, Baltimore Ravens (14.0% rostered; at Steelers)
While the Gus Bus wasn't on the road much on Sunday in a forgettable showing against the Titans, he's heading into Week 12 with real promise, since his two main backfield peers are sidelined for Thursday's key matchup with the Steelers. Speaking of Pittsburgh, Edwards delivered his second-strongest fantasy showing of the season against the Steelers back in Week 8, offering real hope for him to produce a respectable line as the team's featured back this week. -J.M.
Wayne Gallman, New York Giants (55.5% rostered; at Bengals)
The Week 11 bye has resulted in the fantasy community pushing Gallman aside, but he returns to action this week in a feature role against the fourth-worst red zone defense in the league. He's unlikely to make the SC Top 10 (just one 20-yard gain this season), but he has been fantasy-viable for more than a month now and that should continue this weekend. -Kyle Soppe, ESPN Fantasy researcher
James White, New England Patriots (34.8% rostered; vs. Cardinals)
The versatility of Rex Burkhead has made the Patriots' backfield a pain for years, but with Burkhead on the shelf, the roles are well-defined and should allow White to provide a reasonable fantasy floor for those in deeper PPR leagues. Damien Harris has proven to be a strong option carrying the rock, but it's become painfully clear that the Pats don't trust him as a pass-catcher. Enter White, who matched a season high with nine targets Sunday against the Texans and is a good bet to flirt with double figures in fantasy points in this favorable spot. -K.S.
Wide Receiver
Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles (34.2% rostered; vs. Seahawks)
The rookie has yet to have more than 13.2 fantasy points in a game and Carson Wentz doesn't look particularly comfortable these days, but if you're streaming a starting receiver in a week with no teams on a bye, you're ignoring downside and swinging for the fences. Reagor's average depth of target is nearly 15 yards, a skill set that aligns nicely with a Seahawks defense that ranks third worst in opponents deep completion percentage (55.4%). -K.S.
Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis Colts (41.9% rostered; vs. Titans)
The Colts' receiving corps hasn't offered much help to fantasy investors this season, but this rising rookie is changing that narrative with some big lines of late. In addition to scoring his first touchdown Sunday in a big win over the Packers, the USC product has compiled 167 yards and a score during the past two games. This stretch includes a career-best yardage performance against Tennessee, which happens to be this week's opponent. -J.M.
Tight End
Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks (0.9% rostered; at Eagles)
This endorsement is for those in deeper leagues, as Dissly enters without much of a production pedigree this season. The pitch is tied to the absence of Greg Olsen and how his injury led to Dissly hitting the field for a season-high 65% snap rate. It also helps that the Eagles have struggled in coverage against tight ends, confirmed by Philly surrendering 14.5 fantasy points per game to the position. -J.M.
Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team (43.2% rostered; at Cowboys)
Thomas is running a route on 84.9% of Washington dropbacks, the highest rate among all qualified tight ends, and that's more than enough to have me sold against the forgiving Cowboys secondary. Is Thomas going to single-handedly win you your Week 12 matchup? Probably not, but his 5.6 targets hold more value this week than normal and that has him as a top-10 option for me at a brutal position. -K.S.
Defense/Special Teams (D/ST)
Seattle Seahawks (22.1% rostered; at Eagles)
A nice emotional hedge for Eagles fans such as myself. Deploying the Seahawks merits consideration this week given how the Philly offense is reeling in both pass protection and ball security. With Carson Wentz badly struggling behind center and the Seahawks' revived pass rush -- they've posted 13 sacks the past three games -- there is some real fantasy potential for this unit on Monday night. -J.M.
Individual Defensive Players (IDP)
Defensive Line
Quinnen Williams, New York Jets (7.4% rostered; vs. Dolphins)
The Dolphins are struggling to protect their rookie passer of late, a trend that plays into Williams' recent surge in success getting to the pocket. With a sack in two of his past three showings and at least three tackles in every appearance this season, Williams can help at a shallow defensive position. -J.M.
Linebacker
Isaiah Simmons, Arizona Cardinals (7.5% rostered; at Patriots)
A surge in playing time has helped this versatile young playmaker surface as a viable streaming play this week against a run-heavy Patriots offense. Fresh from his best game as a professional, it's a good time to stream this rising 'backer. -J.M.
Defensive Back
Kamren Curl, Washington Football Team (11.9% rostered; at Cowboys)
Not only does Curl have a cool name, he has an emergent game to match. The safety has tallied at least nine tackles in three straight and is being deployed as an effective blitzer during this stretch, confirmed by registering a sack in two of his past three games. -J.M.
