Earlier this month, the Detroit Lions signed veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to the practice squad to help out their average receiver unit. Before landing in the Motor City, Sanu spent three games with the San Francisco 49ers, where he only had one reception for nine yards.
For the Lions, the addition of Sanu couldn’t come at a better time as they were and still without Pro Bowl wide receiver Kenny Golladay, who is week-to-week with a hip injury. On Thanksgiving Day, the decision to sign and elevate him from the practice squad paid off as he was the only Lions receiver to score a touchdown against the Texans.
The 31-year-old wideout was the team’s fourth-leading receiver with four receptions (four targets) for 32 yards. For a team such as the Lions, it was good to see Sanu make his presence felt somewhat in the team’s blowout loss.
With Marvin Hall being an inconsistent WR3/4receiving option behind the likes of Danny Amendola and Marvin Jones Jr., the Lions will take anything that they can get from Sanu. As for fantasy football purposes, Sanu scored 11.2 fantasy points and played 48 percent of offensive snaps on Thursday.
That being said, it will be interesting to see if his snaps are increased or flatline with head coach Matt Patricia getting fired on Saturday. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver is currently rostered in only 1 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues.
