Baltimore Ravens running backs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins have both tested positive for COVID-19 and will be placed on injured reserve, according to Mike Garafolo. This news comes following an announcement that the Ravens had shut down their facility after the team became aware of positive tests.
A positive test means a player is sidelined for at least ten days. This means Ingram and Dobbins can already be ruled out for Thanksgiving night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Veteran back Gus Edwards is all but sure to take the lead heading into Week 12, making him a priority for any fantasy football manager in need of running back depth or a Week 12 win.
Edwards has been sporadically involved in the Ravens game plan since signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He spent plenty of time on clean up duty through the 2019 NFL season, taking reps to close out the games that the team had secured a big lead. However, he’s taken on a more significant role in 2020, even despite the team’s three-way rushing committee. Edwards has seen 10 or more carries in four of 10 games this year, totaling 51 carries for 209 yards and three scores in that four game span.
Edwards gets a difficult matchup against the Steelers on a short week, but it’s not an impossible matchup for the third-year back. Over the last four weeks, this stout Pittsburgh defense has given up the fourth-most rushing yards among all NFL defenses. They’re allowing 4.81 yards per rushing attempt, the sixth-most in the league, while ranking top-three in rushes of 10+ and 20+ yards. Edwards might not be in store for a multiple-touchdown kind of day, but he should be more than capable of breaking off a long run against the Steelers — just as he did in Week 8.
Edwards is rostered in just 7.3 percent of ESPN leagues and 28 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues. Once J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram return, this backfield will be just as confusing as it always has been, but Edwards is a very intriguing two-game loaner that could help you secure a playoff berth. The Ravens lead the league in rushing attempts and rushing yards so far in 2020.
