Heading into their Week 12 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, the Jacksonville Jaguars were without starting wide receivers D.J. Chark and Chris Conley. Both Chark and Conley have not had great 2020 seasons, but they still command a lot of attention on the perimeter. Therefore, not having them was less than ideal for a Jaguars’ team that was starting veteran quarterback Mike Glennon under center.
With that being said, someone else had to step up for the Jaguars’ offense outside of rookie running back James Robinson on Sunday. That, someone, was not Keelan Cole Sr., who had a breakout performance a couple of weeks ago against the Green Bay Packers.
Instead, it was rookie wide receiver Collin Johnson. Johnson was Jacksonville’s leading receiver with four receptions (eight targets) for 96 yards and a touchdown. Cole was the team’s No. 1 wideout on the depth chart, but finished behind Johnson in receiving with three receptions (six targets) for 44 yards.
Before Sunday’s contest, the former Texas Longhorn standout had seven receptions (13 targets) for 69 yards and a touchdown. Depending on how long Chark and Conley are out, Johnson can begin to carve out a roll for himself. The 6-foot-6 wide receiver is not worth putting in a waiver wire claim yet, but could be if he gets consistent snaps. Johnson is currently available in 100 percent of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.
