Last-minute Thanksgiving shoppers get down to the wire - WSAZ

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - For Thanksgiving shoppers, it’s getting down to the wire.

On Wednesday, customers poured in and out of the Charleston Piggly Wiggly grabbing last-minute Thanksgiving items.

“I just grabbed me another pie because I wanted another pumpkin pie,” said customer Cherie Summers.

She says she and her husband Alan Summers are not procrastinators. They simply forgot some key items for Thursday’s feast. Those included collard greens, gravy, and one last pumpkin pie.

The Summers weren’t the only ones. As the afternoon went on, Piggly Wiggly managers saw more customers coming in and out of the store. During the grocery store rush hour, managers noticed hams were getting a lot of attention.

“Which is usually the opposite,” said store manager Tom Keaton. “It’s usually more hams at Christmas than it is at Thanksgiving. However this year, it is completely different”.

Keaton said crowds Wednesday were smaller than he expected.

The Piggly Wiggly in Charleston will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m on Thanksgiving Day.

“For anybody who actually forgets something and needs some last-minute things, we got your back,” Keaton said.
