The Rome Area Chamber of Commerce is lauding IWG Owl Wire, naming the Rome manufacturer, located at 220 S. Madison St., as its Member of the Week.

Originally founded as a family business in 1954, IWG Owl Wire has been a leading manufacturer of copper wire products for over 65 years, the chamber announcement said.

In 2004, Owl began operations in part of the former Rome Cable complex and hired many of the displaced employees, including 15 who are still employed with Owl Wire today, the chamber announcement said.

The South Madison Street facility has 180,000-square feet of manufacturing space and employs approximately 60 people. Here they make many large copper wire cables that are used in oil field, mining, utility and industrial applications.

In December 2019, IWG Owl Wire was acquired by the International Wire Group, the largest bare copper wire and copper wire products manufacturer in the U.S., the chamber said, adding the new relationship is expected to will help Owl continue to thrive and grow.

According to Jeffrey W. Ticconi, director of human resources, IWG Owl Wire is currently looking to hire a limited number of employees as machine operators on their second and third shifts. Individuals interested in applying for employment, should call 315-606-3434 for instructions or visit www.owlwire.com.

Owl Wire’s corporate headquarters is located in Canastota, with manufacturing facilities also located in Boonville, according to the company’s website.
