A few years ago, it appeared as if wide receiver Keelan Cole was going to be an integral part of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense. In 2017, the undrafted free-agent wideout was the favorite target of then quarterback Blake Bortles. He had 42 receptions (83 targets) for 748 yards and three touchdowns.
But since that breakout rookie season, Cole has slipped down the depth chart, becoming a fourth or fifth option within the Jaguars’ offense. On Sunday, the 27-year-old wide receiver re-established him as a playmaker both on offense and special teams against the Green Bay Packers.
In the second quarter, Cole caught a punt at the nine-yard line and proceeded to return it 91 yards for a touchdown. Then in the third quarter, he scored the game-tying touchdown at the time, making the score 17-17.
Ultimately, Cole finished the game with five receptions (seven targets) for 47 yards. It is the second time in four games that the 6-foot-1 wideout had at least five targets. The last time happened in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions, where he had six receptions (nine targets) for 143 yards.
In terms of fantasy football for that week, Cole scored 14.3 points. It should be interesting to see if Cole can build off of this performance with rookie quarterback Jake Luton under center. This Jaguars’ passing game has looked better with Luton spreading the wealth around to Cole, Chris Conley, and DJ Chark. Cole is currently rostered in only 24 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues.
