The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to face the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 5. It’s the first time the Raiders have visited Kansas City since their move to Las Vegas.

To learn more about Kansas City’s opponent, we spoke with managing editor Marcus Mosher over at Raiders Wire and asked him a few questions

Chiefs Wire: What do you think about the state of the Chiefs-Raiders rivalry as the Raiders begin this new chapter in Las Vegas?

Marcus Mosher: Is it even really a rivalry? Derek Carr said as much in a recent interview as the Raiders have failed to compete with the Chiefs in several seasons. The Raiders do appear to be ready to take the next step as a franchise, but they are a ways away from being ready to compete with the Chiefs.

Chiefs Wire: Over 35% of the Raiders’ 53-man roster is on the injury report this week. Is this some tom-foolery from Jon Gruden or is the team really that banged up right now? Which players are you most concerned about potentially missing this game?

Marcus Mosher: This Raiders’ team is incredibly injured right now and they have several key players on the injured reserve list including Richie Incognito and Damon Arnette. They are starting to journeymen at receiver in Nelson Agholor and Zay Jones and are also piecing together a secondary. With the Raiders having a Week 6 bye, you get the sense they are going to be cautious with any banged-up player. Don’t be surprised if several key starters miss this game given their upcoming bye week and considering the opponent.

Chiefs Wire: Both Jon Gruden and Derek Carr have been pretty candid about needing to play better against Kansas City. Do you have a sense of what will happen if they don’t perform better this season?

Marcus Mosher: Probably nothing. They are saying all the right things to the media, but they know that they are at a talent deficit here. If the Raiders ultimately move on from Derek Carr, it won’t be due to lackluster play against the Chiefs. Instead, it will be about Jon Gruden wanting to bring in a passer that can add value with his legs and can make plays outside the pocket.

Marcus Mosher: I would have said Maurice Hurst, but he is going to miss this game due to COVID-19. But keep an eye on Trayvon Mullen. While he was a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, he is quietly developed into one of the best coverage cornerbacks in the league. While the Raiders have had problems at the other defensive back spots, Mullen has been a star. It will be fascinating to see how the Raiders use him in this game and which receiver he will match up with.

Chiefs Wire: What’s your prediction for the outcome of this game?

Marcus Mosher: The Chiefs are a few classes ahead of the Raiders right now. They can score at will and their defense has talent on all three levels. Las Vegas can only win one style of game and that is by playing a ball-control type of game. Unfortunately, they likely won’t be able to play that type of game here and this one could get ugly quick. I like the Chiefs 38, Raiders 21.
