Daly shares Champions lead
Playing his fourth event since revealing he's fighting bladder cancer, John Daly shot an 8-under 64 on Friday for a share of the lead with Jim Furyk in the PGA Tour Champions' TimberTech Champions in Boca Raton, Fla. Daly (Dardanelle, Arkansas Razorbacks) had his lowest score in his five-year career on the 50-and-over tour. The two-time major champion won his lone Champions title in 2017 in Houston. "Just tired all the time, just something the doc told me I'd be," Daly said. "Trying to drink the right stuff, but it's hard to take Diet Coke away from me. I was proud of myself, I only smoked six cigarettes today. Usually I smoke about a pack and a half." The 50-year-old Furyk won this year in his first two starts on the senior tour. He birdied the last two holes and three of the last four. Ken Duke (Arkadelphia, Henderson State) and Glen Day (Little Rock) both turned in a 1-under 71.
Two tied in Bermuda
Ryan Armour and Wyndham Clark survived ferocious wind Friday in the Bermuda Championship to share the lead going into a weekend that includes 64-year-old Fred Funk. Armour could only guess where the 30 mph gusts would blow his golf ball across Port Royal in Southhampton, Bermuda. The 44-year-old from Ohio still managed three early birdies and another on the par-5 17th for a 1-under 70. Clark played in the afternoon and reached 10-under par until a pair of late bogeys for a 68. They were at 8-under 134. The big surprise was Funk, who only played because he had a chance to be paired with his son, Taylor. Funk, whose last PGA Tour victory was in 2007 at the Mayakoba Classic, chipped in for birdie from behind the ninth green for a 72, and his son was so excited he about knocked him to the ground in celebration. Funk is at 1 under, seven shots back.

Hall of Fame CB dies at 81
Herb Adderley, the Hall of Fame cornerback who joined the NFL as a running back and became part of a record six championship teams with the Packers and Cowboys, has died. He was 81. His death was confirmed by the Packers on Friday, with no details given. Adderley played in four of the first six Super Bowls and won five NFL championships with Green Bay and one with Dallas during his 12-year career. "I'm the only man with a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl ring who doesn't wear it. I'm a Green Bay Packer," Adderley said in the book "Distant Replay," a memoir by former Packers teammate Jerry Kramer. Along with former teammates Fuzzy Thurston and Forrest Gregg, Adderley is one of four players in pro football history to play on six championship teams. Tom Brady is the other. Adderley was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980.

MLB approves Mets sale
The Wilpon family's control of the New York Mets neared its end after 34 years when Major League Baseball owners voted Friday to approve the sale of the team to billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen. The vote was 26-4, a person familiar with the meeting told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the balloting was not announced. Cohen needed 75% approval. The transfer from the Wilpon and Katz families values the franchise between $2.4 billion and $2.45 billion, a record for a baseball team that tops the $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers from Frank McCourt to Guggenheim Baseball Management in 2012.
More become free agents
Jon Lester, Corey Kluber and Brad Hand were among 15 more major-leaguers who became free agents Friday when teams declined their 2021 options, many the victims of budget cuts after a regular season without fans. AL champion Tampa Bay declined 2021 options on right-hander Charlie Morton and catcher Mike Zunino, but say it remains hopeful of re-signing them. There are 175 players who became free agents after the World Series and about 15 more can go free this weekend. Lester, 36, gets a $10 million buyout from the Chicago Cubs that completes a $155 million, six-year contract rather than a $25 million mutual option. He was 77-44 with a 3.64 ERA in 171 starts over six seasons with the Cubs. Cleveland declined Hand's $10 million option. Kluber, whose option was for $18 million, lasted just one inning in his only start of the season for the Rangers before a shoulder injury ended his year. Kluber gets a $1 million buyout.

Djokovic defeated in Vienna
Novak Djokovic lost for only the third time this year after a listless effort in the Erste Bank Open quarterfinals in Vienna on Friday. The top-ranked Djokovic lost his first meeting with 42nd-ranked Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 6-2, 6-1. Despite losing, Djokovic was remarkably content. "I came here with the intention to try to earn more points and secure the No. 1 in the end of the year. I have done that, so I move on," he said. Sonego will play Daniel Evans for a place in Sunday's final. The 33rd-ranked Briton advanced to his second semifinal in two weeks' time and third of the season after outlasting Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3. Also, Andrey Rublev reached the semifinals, continuing his quest for a record fifth ATP title this season. No. 5-seeded Rublev beat defending champion Dominic Thiem 7-6 (5), 6-2 to set up a semifinal against 2018 champion Kevin Anderson, who defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6 (5).
