The Pittsburgh Steelers have their new offensive line coach but what does he have to work with. Pittsburgh has multiple young linemen on the roster and a handful of free agents to consider. This means when it is time for the 2021 NFL draft, don’t be shocked if the offensive line is a top priority.

This is the mindset of our friends over at Draft Wire. They put out a new one-round mock draft and landed the Steelers Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield. Here’s what they had to say about the pick.

Whether it’s Ben Roethlisberger or someone else behind center for the Steelers next season, the protection has to improve in a big way, particularly at offensive tackle. Mayfield has tons of experience against top-level pass rushers at right tackle, but is talented enough to play the left side, if needed.

Mayfield is an interesting pick. In watching him play he’s definitely an NFL-caliber right tackle early in his career. Pittsburgh is looking at going into the offseason with Alejandro Villanueva, Matt Feiler and Zach Banner as free agents. If the Steelers went with Mayfield it could be a Mayfield and Chuks Okorafor starting combo in 2021.
