Are you ready for another Super Bowl, Chiefs Kingdom?

Just as we have over the past four seasons, the Chiefs Wire staff will offer its weekly predictions for each Chiefs game, including the playoffs. Below you’ll find all of our picks for Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. CT.

The Chiefs have been an unstoppable juggernaut in the postseason since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback. The one game they faltered came against Bucs QB Tom Brady, back when he was with the Patriots. That failure came at the hands of a defensive unit that is no longer, and this game provides a chance to rid Mahomes of his only postseason blemish.

It won’t all be on Mahomes and the offense, though. No, I expect it’ll be the defense that steps up and makes the difference in this game. They say that “defense wins championships” and this time around it might be true. Historically speaking, Brady has folded when pressured. This year, his completion percentage has dropped to an abysmal 36 percent when under pressure. While Kansas City isn’t known for sacking the quarterback, they boast a league-leading pressure rating and they’ve only gotten better down the stretch.

When the confetti falls on Sunday, we’ll all realize that the Chiefs aren’t just the most talented team in modern football, but they’re also the best-coached team in the league. We’ll understand that they’ve got the collective willpower to win a second consecutive Super Bowl title. And they’ll do so with a flourish, ushering in the NFL’s newest dynasty.

The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl, ready to live up to their 2020 season slogan to “Run It Back” with a second consecutive win. Florida is once again the setting for the big game but this time in Tampa Bay, ironically home to the opposing Buccaneers looking to cement quarterback Tom Brady’s legacy as the greatest of all-time.

Kansas City will look to duplicate the amazing start from the team’s regular-season matchup back in November with big shots down the field to playmaking wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Buccaneers will likely have extra help in the secondary to combat Hill’s efficiency. Still, it won’t be enough to slow down a motivated Travis Kelce in his own battle against fellow elite tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Expect Brady to have some success in the opening quarter, but he will face issues with Steve Spagnuolo’s defense leading takeaways and stalled drives. Expect Tyrann Mathieu once again became a problem for the Buccaneers’ offense especially late in the game. The game will open up in the Chiefs’ favor during the second half as Patrick Mahomes will be brilliant throughout the game, securing his second Super Bowl MVP and a victory.

The Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl and somehow this game has bigger implications than just winning a championship win. Both Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady will greatly benefit from another win, as it will help cement each of their legacies and put an end to the GOAT conversation. That being said, I have the Mahomes getting one step closer to overtaking Brady with an MVP-worthy performance.

I believe this will be a high-scoring game with both quarterbacks coming out strong, however as the game goes on Tom Brady will start to crumble under the Chiefs’ pressure. The defense having a strong fourth quarter is going to be key. If they’re able to create big plays, while Mahomes and the offense do their thing, a second consecutive win will be within the Chiefs’ grasps.

The final prediction of the season and did anyone ever really doubt it’d end with a Super Bowl pick? In a rematch from Week 12 when Tyreek Hill had a record-breaking first half, the Chiefs travel back to Tampa and take on the NFC champions. The first game ended in a three-point Kansas City victory after scoring only a single touchdown in the second half so this next time around a complete game will be necessary.

The strength of the Tampa Bay defense is in the front seven and how stingy they are against the run but sacks and forcing turnovers has been how they have gotten through the NFC playoffs. The Chiefs offensive line is banged up but that has been the case now for weeks. The fact that the available linemen have had two weeks to prepare rather than throwing in a fresh face right off the bench during the biggest game of the year is a silver lining.

Protecting Patrick Mahomes is the key to success for the offense. Demarcus Robinson has cleared COVID-19 protocol and can play while Sammy Watkins remains hopeful he will be able to. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, however, are the names that the Bucs defense is most aware of. For the Kansas City defense getting to Tom Brady is paramount. Brady has struggled with turning the ball over and threw two interceptions against K.C. in Week 12.

Only two different quarterbacks in NFL history can say they have defeated Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. Eli Manning did it twice and Nick Foles accomplished it after filling in for the injured Carson Wentz. Even though Brady is the most experienced Super Bowl player of all-time, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are too talented on offense.

The Chiefs face their final hurdle of the season against Tampa Bay on Sunday and are in prime position to win their second straight Super Bowl. Kansas City won handily in the teams’ last meeting in 2020, but an underdog playoff run by Brady and the Bucs seems to have reinvigorated the talented roster assembled by first-year coach Bruce Arians.

A matchup of epic proportions, the duel between the best to ever do it and the potential heir to his throne should be a game for the ages and could set up a dynasty scenario for Kansas City if they’re able to pull out a win. This Super Bowl was the best-case scenario headed into this season in terms of potential hype, and with Sunday fast approaching it seems many think it’s anyone’s game. I’ll take Kansas City, though, and expect a rout with a final score to tighten the Chiefs’ grip on NFL domination.

Wesley Roesch's pick:

I’m very confident in a Chiefs win this weekend. I don’t like to be confident, so that scares me.

But why shouldn’t I be confident? The Chiefs, who lost one game this season (I won’t count the Chargers loss in Week 17, which was played almost entirely by Kansas City’s backups), are playing their best ball at the perfect time. I expect Patrick Mahomes to be focused and at his best. Even with injuries at the offensive line, I don’t think Pat allows this one to slip away.

But what if the Chiefs do slack a bit on offense? Well, they have the defense, which borderline dominated the Bills two weeks ago, and handled the Browns a week before that. The defense has also been pressuring the quarterback well, which is the best thing you can do against Tom Brady. I think it’s a recipe for success for the Chiefs.

I’m still terrified, though.
