Rams Lead Wire-To-Wire In 75-53 Victory Over Fresno State Monday Night - CSURams.com

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Colorado State led from start-to-finish and pulled away during the second half for a 75-53 win over visiting Fresno State Monday night in the Mountain West opener for both squads. With the victory, the Rams improved to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in the league, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-1 and 0-1 in the conference.
 
CSU scored the first seven points of the contest, but Fresno State hung tough and cut the margin to two at 19-17 with 6:35 remaining in the first half. From there, CSU put on a 11-1 run and pulled out to a 30-18 lead late in the opening stanza before entering the intermission leading 33-22.
 
The Bulldogs cut into the lead early in the second half, getting it down to six, 36-30, with less than four minutes gone. However, the Rams scored the next eight points and never led by less than nine the rest of the way, eventually building the lead to 24 in the final minute of action.
 
Colorado State finished the game at 48.0 percent (24-of-50) from the floor, with half of their makes coming from the three-point line, as the Rams were 12-of-28 (42.9 percent) beyond the arc. Fresno State was held to 40.8 percent overall (20-of-49) and a paltry 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from the three. CSU was 71.4 percent (15-of-21) at the charity stripe while Fresno State finished at 47.4 (9-of-19). The Bulldogs won the boards 35-31.
 
The Rams had three in double figures, led by sophomore forward David Roddy with game highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Isaiah Stevens had 16 points and nine assists, while junior guard Kendle Moore chipped in 13 points, three assists and two steals. The Bulldogs had two in double figures, paced by forward Orlando Robinson with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
• The Rams forced 22 Bulldog turnovers and converted them to a 31-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
NOTES
• The Rams now lead the overall series 21-18, including a dominant 16-3 at home.
• Head coach Niko Medved is now 4-1 all-time against Fresno State.
• The Rams are now 6-16 in Mountain West openers, including 5-8 at home.
• CSU is now 3-0 when leading at the break this year and 28-6 over the past two-plus seasons under Medved.
• This was the fourth game in a row that CSU has held an opponent under 60 points, the first time that has occurred since 2012-13, when Medved was in his final season as an assistant coach at CSU.
• The Rams are now 26-8 under Medved when holding a team under 45 percent from the floor and 31-6 when leading in field goal percentage.
• Roddy's 13 rebounds tied a career best while the double-double was the fourth of his career.
