There are a few tight ends widely available that either have favorable matchups heading into Week 16, had successful Week 15 performances, or could benefit from an injury. With that in mind, here are five tight ends with under 50% ownership in traditional fantasy football leagues that managers can consider picking up for Week 16.
Dawson Knox, Bills (2 percent)
Next up — at Patriots
Knox has seen his targets rise of late, with 15 over his last three games. He’s not getting much yardage, but he does have two touchdowns in that span. Like other tight ends, he remains a touchdown or bust fantasy play, but I’d rather have a player like that getting targets from Josh Allen rather than Brandon Allen.
Austin Hooper, Browns (48 percent)
Next up — at Jets
Hooper gets a good matchup with the Jets this week and we saw him get his most targets since Week six and score a touchdown. He’s not getting the volume you’d want in the fantasy playoffs, but he is set up well for a touchdown in this matchup.
Jordan Akins, Texans (4 percent)
Next up — at Bengals
Akins hasn’t lived up to his possibilities, but he has seen six targets in his last two games and pulled in five for 50 yards last week. A matchup with the Bengals, who allow the second most PPR points to tight ends, gives Akins some good upside this week.
Jordan Reed, 49ers (21 percent)
Next up — at Cardinals
Reed has two touchdowns over the last three games, but hasn’t added much more than that. That’s what you’re hoping for if you plug him in this week.
Dan Arnold, Cardinals (2 percent)
Next up — 49ers
Arnold has three touchdowns over the last three weeks and is clearly a target for Kyler Murray in the end zone. His matchup with the 49ers is one of the tougher on paper, as San Francisco has allowed the fewest PPR points to tight ends on the season. That doesn’t mean they won’t give up a touchdown to Arnold, as they allowed one just last week to Dalton Schultz.
