As we head into the final week of the NFL’s regular season, plenty of fantasy football championships are on the line. Depending on your league, some of you might be done already, while others are set to guess on what will happen in Week 17. For fantasy owners of Patrick Mahomes, you’re not sure if he will get the start or if Chad Henne will get his first NFL start since 2014. If you’re in that situation or are the owner of another quarterback whose team has nothing to play for, let’s take a look at some potential options at QB you could pick up to win your fantasy championship, third place game, pride or whatever it is you’re playing for.
Every player listed is owned in less than 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Mitchell Trubisky, Bears (24.1 percent)
Next up — GB
Are you prepared to let your fantasy season ride on the arm of Mitch Trubisky? Before you start laughing, he has been a solid option since he reclaimed his starting job the last time the Chicago Bears matched up against the Green Bay Packers. Since then, Trubisky has thrown for an average of 248.6 yards and threw 10 touchdown passes with four interceptions. Green Bay has a good secondary and has been good against the pass this season, but the Bears must find success throwing the ball to keep pace with the Packers offense in a huge game for both teams.
Derek Carr, Raiders (43.5 percent)
Next up — @DEN
If not for a miracle once again completed by Ryan Fitzpatrick, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr would’ve been the star on Saturday night. He threw for 336 yards and a touchdown, completing 21 of 34 pass attempts. In the last three full games Carr played in, he has thrown for an average of 344.3 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He will go up against a slightly above average defense against the pass with the Denver Broncos in Week 17.
Baker Mayfield, Browns (36.2 percent)
Next up — PIT
The Cleveland Browns gave the New York Jets their second victory of the season, but it’s hard to blame anybody in this loss. Baker Mayfield and the Browns found out late in the week they would be without their top four wide receivers Jarvis Landry, Donovan Peoples-Jones, KhaDarel Hodge and Rashard Higgins due to COVID-19 protocols. It remains to be seen whether they will all be back but if they are, Mayfield could be an intriguing play as the Browns have everything to play for, while the Pittsburgh Steelers already locked up either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
Kirk Cousins, Vikings (35.2 percent)
Next up — @DET
Kirk Cousins continues to let the ball fly in the Minnesota Vikings offense, which is great news for fantasy owners. He never attempted 40 or more passes in any of his first 10 games this season but has done just that in three of his last five. He has been racking up the touchdowns as well with multiple touchdown throws in seven of his last eight games. Hopefully the Detroit Lions can get some points up on the board against a pretty bad Minnesota defense to put this game into shootout mode.
