There isn’t an obvious must-add at wide receiver in most fantasy leagues. But there are definitely a few players who could boom for your team in Week 17. With that in mind, here are five wide receivers with under 50 percent ownership in traditional fantasy football leagues that managers can consider picking up for Week 17.
Michael Gallup, Cowboys (44 percent)
Next up — at Giants
Gallup suddenly has four touchdowns in his last four games after scoring just once in his first 11. He starred against the Eagles, posting 121 yards and two TDs on six catches. His yardage totals have often left you wanting more, but Gallup has seen eight targets in four of his last five games and will face a beatable Giants secondary. It’s a good matchup accented by the fact that he probably won’t see much of top cornerback James Bradberry.
Sterling Shepard, Giants (44 percent)
Next up — vs. Cowboys
Daniel Jones may not be a good quarterback, but at least he is better than Colt McCoy at keeping Sterling Shepard viable for fantasy managers. Shepard saw a nearly 30 percent target share in Week 16 as he recorded a 9-77-1 line on a season-high 12 targets at Baltimore. He should be able to produce good numbers against a Cowboys defense that has allowed the second-most fantasy points to wideouts.
Laviska Shenault Jr., Jaguars (16 percent)
Next up — at Colts
Shenault probably wouldn’t be on this list if he hadn’t caught a 34-yard touchdown in the waning minutes of the Jags’ blowout loss to Chicago in Week 16. Alas, it happened, and Shenault has now scored in two of the past four weeks. He has also seen at least six targets in each of the past three. No matter who is under center, Shenault is getting enough looks to be worth considering. Plus, the Jags like to give him a carry or two per week. The Colts have given up five TDs to wide receivers in their last three games, so this isn’t a stay-away matchup if you want to take a chance on the rookie.
Zach Pascal, Colts (5 percent)
Next up — vs. Jaguars
You can’t ignore the box scores Pascal has registered of late. He went 5-79-2 on six targets in Week 15 and followed that up with a 3-64-1 line on six targets last Sunday. The danger here is that Pascal caught exactly one pass in each of the three preceding games, But with Michael Pittman Jr. concussed, there isn’t much competition here for WR targets right now. Pascal gets a fantastic matchup this week with the Jags coming to town.
Rashard Higgins, Browns (23 percent)
Next up — vs. Steelers
Obviously, using Higgins is contingent upon his activation from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Assuming he is cleared, he’s a nice add in a must-win game for Cleveland. He has averaged nearly 80 receiving yards and 5.3 catches over his last three games. He scored twice during that span, too. After losing to the Jets without basically all of his wideouts in Week 16, I imagine Baker Mayfield will show a little more love than usual to Higgins upon his return.
