The Crown Reportedly Casts The Wire Actor As Prince Charles - Screen Rant

susilangs.blogspot.com

The Wire star Dominic West is reportedly in talks to play Prince Charles in The Crown season 5 and 6, taking over from Josh O' Connor in the regal period drama. Based on Peter Morgan's 2006 film The Queen and 2013 stage play The Audience, The Crown follows the protracted regime of the British Monarch Queen Elizabeth II dating all the way back to her enthronement in 1953. As it navigates through the empress' life chronologically, The Crown recasts its main roles every two seasons. Connor played Prince Charles in season 3 and 4 (due to premiere November 15, 2020) and now Left Bank Pictures and Netflix is looking to replace him with West for the show's final two seasons.

According to a report from The Sun, Dominic West has been approached to play Prince Charles in The Crown season 5, which will focus on the Prince of Wales' tumultuous and eventually failing relationship with his wife Lady Diana Spencer, (Emma Corrin season 4, Elizabeth Debicki season 5) and his alleged affair with his former lover Camilla Parker Bowles. As for now, West has not yet signed the dotted line, but the makers are keen on casting him. The Sun reports that "both parties are hammering out a deal." If the contract materializes, then West will reprise his role in The Crown's final season 6 as well.

West is undoubtedly a prestigious addition to The Crown's already star-studded ensemble. He had delivered an astoundingly stunning and emotional performance in the TV-series The Affair, which also dealt with extra-marital relationships and intricate romance. He will, therefore, be able to transfer his acting chops from the acclaimed series for his complicated portrayal in The Crown.

The Crown season 4 synopsis reads as follows: As the 1970s are drawing to a close, Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), who is still unmarried at 30. As the nation begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions arise between her and the Queen which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth. While Charles’ romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) provides a much-needed fairytale to unite the British people, behind closed doors, the Royal family is becoming increasingly divided.
