The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to face the Denver Broncos on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 13. They’ll be playing for the division lead within the AFC West.

To learn more about Kansas City’s opponent, we spoke with managing editor Jon Heath over at Broncos Wire and asked him a few questions.

Chiefs Wire: What would a win against the Chiefs mean for the Broncos? Conversely, what would a loss mean for this team?

Broncos Wire:  A win would be huge because it would propel Denver into first place in the AFC West and give them confidence going into the final stretch of the regular season. Granted, taking a division lead in Week 13 certainly wouldn’t guarantee anything, but it would put the Broncos in a great spot.

A loss, on the other hand, wouldn’t sink their season because few teams are pulling away in the AFC, at least the teams competing for Wild Card spots. As long as it’s not a blowout, the sky won’t be falling in Denver if the Broncos fail to get an upset win.

Chiefs Wire: The Broncos traded Von Miller to the Rams at the deadline. How have they gone about replacing his presence on the field?

Broncos Wire: On the field, Denver surprisingly hasn’t missed him greatly. The Broncos actually have more sacks without Miller (3 per game) than with Von (2.1) this season. His leadership is missed, though, and his run support has been missed at times. Miller is known as a great pass rusher but some fans don’t realize how good he is at setting the edge. Malik Reed is a fine pass rusher but he has been a liability in the run game at times. It wouldn’t be surprising if KC runs toward Reed’s side frequently.

Bradley Chubb is now the guy OLB with Reed starting across from him. Seventh-round rookie Jonathon Cooper has been a huge surprise with excellent contributions as a rotational edge defender, and Stephen Weatherly has been a fine rotational piece as well.

Chiefs Wire: Who has been the most impactful offseason addition (draft or free agent) for the Broncos so far?

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Broncos Wire: That’s tough because Denver added some really key players this offseason (like Pat Surtain on defense), but quarterback trumps all. Teddy Bridgewater isn’t the long-term answer and he’s not going to beat many teams with his arm, but he generally protects the football well, and that’s what the Broncos were missing at QB. Drew Lock led the NFL in turnovers last year. This year, Bridgewater has five interceptions in 11 games, which is a huge improvement.

Chiefs Wire: What’s your level of concern with the injuries that Denver is currently dealing with on the offensive line?

 Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Broncos Wire: Remarkably, the offensive line injuries haven’t sunk the Broncos, at least not yet. That might change going up against Chris Jones this week, but Denver’s also expected to get some reinforcements this week. LT Garett Bolles (COVID-19) and right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle) are both expected to return this week. RG Graham Glasgow won’t return this season, but third-round draft pick Quinn Meinerz has done an excellent job filling in for him. Netane Muti will continue filling in at LG if Dalton Risner (back) can’t return this week, and Muti has looked sharp as well. Again, things could change in KC, but the backup offensive linemen have done a great job stepping up thus far.

Chiefs Wire: How does this one play out? Can the Broncos break their winless streak against the Chiefs on Sunday?

Broncos Wire: They can, but it’s hard to say they will. I think Denver will keep this game closer than many fans and pundits are expecting, but it’s obviously very tough to get a win at Arrowhead. Chiefs 24, Broncos 21.
