POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Columbia women's basketball team used a dominant second half to turn in an impressive performance Sunday afternoon, handily defeating Marist College, 78-49, at McCann Arena.

Columbia (8-2) blew the game open in the third quarter, going on a 17-2 run and outscoring Marist 22-5 in the period to take a commanding lead. The Lions were in front by just six at the half.

A big part of Columbia's second-half success was limiting turnovers. After Marist (2-6) outscored the Lions 10-2 off turnovers in the first half, Columbia went on to commit only five the rest of the way. The Lions were also dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Red Foxes, 58-34. By the time the final horn sounded, Kaitlyn Davis, Kitty Henderson and Jaida Patrick all wound up with double-doubles,

"Totally unselfish effort. That's what this team is about and it was really nice to be able to see it on the stat sheet today," Columbia head coach Megan Griffith said. "It shows how dangerous we can be and makes us harder to guard. Statistically, we just dominated this game, which was really encouraging."

Davis led all Lions with 18 points and pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds to go with four steals, three blocks and an assist. Henderson, who made her first collegiate start, had 12 points, 10 boards and a pair of assists to register her first double-double. Junior transfer Jaida Patrick scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to also tally her first. Abbey Hsu rounded out the four Lions in double figures with 11 points on three made triples.

"It was sticking to our principles, playing the way we know how to play and making sure we are communicating," said Davis, whose double-double was her third of the season. "A lot of times on defense, we were playing individually [in the first half], and we just had to step it up and play together as a team … I think it all comes down to trusting our teammates. We were just trying to share the ball and play the way we know how to play."

The Lions shared the ball quite well as evidenced by a season-high 21 assists. Junior point guard Carly Rivera matched her career-high with eight of them while eight different Lions tallied at least one. Columbia also made its presence felt defensively near the basket, registering a season-high eight blocks from six different players.

It was all Columbia at the jump, sprinting out to a 17-2 lead with less than three minutes left in the first quarter. Hannah Pratt and Jaida Patrick splashed home back-to-back threes along the way.

Marist fought back into the game and scored the next nine points over a five-minute span to make it 17-11. Hsu put an end to it with a couple of threes to extend the margin back to 11, but the Red Foxes took advantage of turnovers and found themselves within six at the break.

It would never get any closer. A rejuvenated Columbia team turned the ball over just once in the third quarter, hit seven field goals, four threes and blocked four Marist shots to run away with the game. The 17-2 run was capped by 12 consecutive Columbia points, including threes by Patrick and Mikayla Markham that put the Lions up 20 for the first time.

The result was never in question in the fourth. Paige Lauder's triple with four minutes to go ballooned the margin to 30 and the Lions walked off with their third consecutive victory.

Columbia returns home for two games before finals. They'll host UMass (9-1) Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by LIU (0-8) the following Monday at 7 p.m.
