Week 8 was a frustrating one for many of the rookie wide receivers. DeVonta Smith had his worst day as a pro, catching just one pass for 15 yards against the Lions. Kadarius Toney returned from injury only to suffer a new injury, and underperform against the Chiefs at the same time. Jaylen Waddle caught just four of 12 targets for a season-low 29 yards against the Bills.
And I'm buying all of them.
Smith still leads the Eagles with a 23% target share for the season. Week 8 was mostly a product of the team running all over the Lions and not needing to throw. There's nothing we've seen from these Eagles that suggests they'll be able to do this on a regular basis. Jalen Hurts should be back over 30 pass attempts this week against the Chargers and Smith should be a solid No. 3 receiver as well.
As for Waddle, I'm just thrilled he had 12 targets. I'm not going to count off for being miserably inefficient against Buffalo. Most wide receivers are. Most weeks the Dolphins, like the Eagles, will struggle to run the ball and Waddle appears locked in to 20-plus percent of the targets from an improving Tua Tagovailoa.
Toney is the most concerning, only because of all the injuries. But that's basically been true of all the Giants wide receivers. He's certainly more healthy than Sterling Shepard and Kenny Golladay right now. I would anticipate Toney leading the Giants in targets in Week 9 and quite possibly for the rest of the season.

Week 9 WR Preview
Who's Out
The following players are not being projected to play Week 9 at this time. Here's what it means:
Numbers to Know
- 190 -- Jakobi Meyers now has 190 career targets without a receiving touchdown. He is three targets away from Eric Bieniemy's record of 193.
- 34% -- Deebo Samuel leads the NFL with a 34% target share.
- 20 -- Cooper Kupp leads the NFL with 20 red zone targets. Chris Godwin is second at 15.
- 5 -- Mike Williams has five targets or fewer in three of his past four games. One more game like that and I'm going to get very nervous.
- 10.7 -- Hunter Renfrow has one game below 10.7 PPR Fantasy points this season.
- 16% -- Four different Broncos had a 16% target share in Jerry Jeudy's first game back. They're going to need a lot more pass attempts to make that work.
- 7 -- Devante Parker has at least seven targets in every game he's played this year.
