A Fluor (NYSE: FLR) subsidiary has received a $1.16 billion award from the U.S. Navy to extend propulsion work at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory through fiscal year 2022.

The military service exercised a cost-plus-fixed-fee option on its contract with Fluor Marine Propulsion, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

FMP initially won a potential $13.07 billion contract in July 2018 to manage NNL for the departments of the Navy and Energy.

Efforts at the laboratory include developing nuclear propulsion systems, providing technical support and training sailors in nuclear reactor management, according to Fluor.

Work will take place in Schenectady, New York; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity and will obligate $17.3 million on the contract option.
