The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to face the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Week 7. It’s the first time these two teams have faced off since the 2019 AFC Championship Game.

To learn more about Kansas City’s opponent, we spoke with managing editor Mike Moraitis over at Titans Wire and asked him a few questions.

Chiefs WIre: What is the general feel on the outlook of the Titans’ season after beating the Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 6?

Andrew Nelles / Tennessean.Com / USA TODAY NETWORK

Titans Wire: There were plenty of doubts about the Titans’ ability to be true contenders this season during the first five weeks, especially after they lost to the New York Jets, but after beating Buffalo there is renewed belief Tennessee can indeed be just that.

Chiefs Wire: The Chiefs have held Derrick Henry under 100 rushing yards twice in four meetings. He’s also on a 5-game streak of 100-yard rushing performances. Do you think Kansas City has any chance of containing the king?

Titans Wire: I think there’s always a chance Henry will explode no matter the matchup, something he proved last week. That said, Henry has been both good and bad against the Chiefs in the past, so they know how to stop him and have as good a chance as any as a result. At the end of the day, it’ll come down to who wins in the trenches and I think that will be Tennessee’s offensive line, which excels in run-blocking. It’s going to take more than a big game from Henry for Tennessee to win, though.

Chiefs Wire: The defensive secondary in Tennessee is pretty banged up (probably an understatement). Who do you expect to get the nod at cornerback this week and how do you anticipate they’ll manage against Patrick Mahomes and company?

Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

Titans Wire: Chances are the Titans will start Breon Borders in place of their No. 1 corner, Kristian Fulton. While Borders was good last season when given an opportunity, he hasn’t played well in 2021. Janoris Jenkins will maintain his starting role on the other side, but he hasn’t been good, either. How will they hold up against Mahomes and Co.? Let’s just put it this way: it’s going to be a long night for the secondary, barring a miracle.

Chiefs Wire: Are there any new faces or underrated performers for the Titans that Chiefs fans should know about before the game?

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Titans Wire: Not sure how on the national map Harold Landry and Jeffery Simmons are, but both are becoming stars this season. Landry has been a menace in the pass-rush, as he ranks in the top five in all of the major pass-rush categories, including in sacks with 6.5, one more than he had all of last season and 2.5 less than his career-high. If the Titans do keep Mahomes in check, it’ll be because Landry went off. Simmons’ impact doesn’t always show up on the box score, but he’s someone teams have to double team or else he can wreck things upfront, and we saw that during the game-winning goal-line stand against the Bills. Also, I need to give Denico Autry a shoutout. Like Simmons, he doesn’t always do things that show up on the stat sheet but is always making an impact in other ways, both against the pass and run, and has been Tennessee’s best free-agent signing by far.

Chiefs Wire: Who do you think gets the win this week and why?

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Titans Wire: While I always tend to pick the Titans in games nobody expects them to win because they always seem to rise to the occasion, I’m not going that route this week. Last week’s victory was such an emotional win, I just can’t see the Titans having enough in the tank to beat two elite teams in back-to-back weeks. This matchup probably came at the worst time possible for Tennessee. The Chiefs win a close one. Chiefs 34, Titans 30.
