The Giants have been hit just about as hard as any team in the NFL by injuries, at least when it comes to the skill positions, and they lost Kadarius Toney after just seven snaps Sunday, as he apparently aggravated his lingering ankle injury. That's another big blow for the Giants, but Sunday's game against the Rams highlighted something we have known to be true about the Giants since Week 1: Sterling Shepard might just be a must-start Fantasy WR in this offense. Which makes him arguably the top waiver-wire target heading into Week 7.
Shepard, who was making his own return from a hamstring injury, was targeted 14 times in the game, catching 10 of them for 75 yards. The yardage total isn't terribly impressive, but it was against a tough Rams defense that made Daniel Jones' life miserable. But the key point here is that Shepard returned from injury and was right back as Jones' favorite target.
Early on Sunday, that wasn't necessarily true, as Toney earned three targets on the team's first drive before exiting with the injury. However, Shepard was probably always going to get his, especially in a game where the Giants had to throw 51 times. Shepard has been targeted at least nine times in each game he has been healthy enough to complete, averaging 94 yards on 8.7 catches per game.
Shepard has been super productive working primarily out of the slot, and the Giants WR injury issues don't seem to be going away, so he sure looks like a WR you want in your lineup every week. And, if Toney and Kenny Golladay are sidelined in Week 7 against the Panthers, Shepard will probably be a must-start WR.
Here's an early look at who else we might be looking at on waivers in Week 7:
