Where and when will LA Rams work waiver wire wonders? - Ramblin' Fan

susilangs.blogspot.com

Yes, I’m one of those guys who still believes that the LA Rams have not finished with roster additions. Why? Call it a hunch. In 2020, the LA Rams felt like a team that needed more oomph on the edge. Even though the team signed free agent outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and drafted outside linebacker Terrell Lewis, the team felt as though more was needed. Lewis needed several weeks to get his knee troubles under control, and the lack of training camp time pushed the Rams’ edge rushes to priority as the season started.

The Rams ended up landing outside linebacker Justin Hollins and defensive Derek Rivers and adding them to the 53-man roster for the 2020 season. The team also added linebacker Derek Moncrieff as well.

That ability to land players who were able to contribute to the outside linebacker role so quickly not only impressed me a great deal but has since stuck with me. Sometimes it feels as though the LA Rams front office views roster building as an exercise that extends well beyond the traditional NFL Free Agency market and the NFL Draft, and continues all the way until all 32 NFL teams must cut their rosters to the 53-man season limits.

Waiver wire wonders once again

Of course, the sudden release of 1,184 NFL-worthy players is simply too large of a population to predict who might be cut, and then to wade through that crowd to focus upon several key individuals who could be added to the Rams’ own roster as additional insurance.

So for now, I’ll settle on which positions the Rams are most likely to prioritize in setting the 53-man roster?  I believe that the Rams could use another cornerback, perhaps a young pocket-passer quarterback, a robust linebacker, or even an offensive lineman on the roster. Even though it’s early, it just feels as though the Rams are trying to corner the turns too closely this year.

While I am continuing to assess specific camp battles on the team, and also take a look at the overall roster, one thing seems clear to me. The Rams roster does not feel ‘ripe’ just yet. I’m uncertain if that means a veteran is needed, or just a promising young player addition will do the trick. I’m confident that the Rams front office will do whatever is necessary. But for myself, the jury is still out on what that might be.
