The U.S. Army has selected five companies to receive funds that will support artificial intelligence and robotic technology prototyping projects under the service branch’s other transaction agreement with the National Advanced Mobility Consortium, Inside Defense reported Thursday.

Contractors will prototype AI and robotic systems intended to boost the performance of dismounted infantry platoons when they carry out missions.

The Army said its simulations demonstrated that these technologies have the potential to make a 40-soldier infantry platoon as effective as a 600-soldier battalion.

Georgia Tech Research Institute will organize a system of systems combining technologies from the participating companies. The integrated system will undergo testing in October 2022 under Army Futures Command’s Project Convergence event, which will exhibit sensing, AI, cloud computing, autonomy, medical and other modern technologies.

The awardees are:

  • Bounce Imaging
  • Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)
  • Neya Systems
  • Persistent Systems
  • Scientific Systems Company
