Despite all of the additions the Jets made in the offseason, Touchdown Wire does not think too highly of New York in its latest power rankings.

Touchdown Wire ranked the Jets 28th in its pre-training camp power ranks. As for the rest of the AFC East, the Patriots are 20th, the Dolphins are ninth, and the Bills are third.

Touchdown Wire liked what the Jets did in the offseason with the acquisitions of Carl Lawson and Corey Davis in free agency. Zach Wilson, meanwhile, was not Touchdown Wire’s top quarterback in the draft, but the site still thinks he will fit in Mike LaFleur’s offense.

In addition to Wilson, the Jets drafted Alijah Vera-Tucker, Elijah Moore, and Michael Carter. All should improve the offense, which was one of the worst in the league last season under Adam Gase.

The Jets seem to be putting the right pieces in place to turn themselves around after a 2-14 season, but this rebuild is going to take more than one strong offseason. There are still a few areas of concern, such as cornerback, tight end and the offensive line.

The Jets also have an extremely young roster, which is good in the long run but not the present. Robert Saleh, however, doesn’t look at New York’s youth as an issue, thanks in part to Pete Carroll, one of the Jets coach’s mentors.

“Pete Carroll once said, ‘You can’t be afraid to play young guys,'” Saleh recently said. “They’re hell on wheels, and they’re fun to watch.”

That is the attitude the Jets have to have heading into the 2021 season. There will be plenty of bumps in the road, and they won’t be as competitive as everyone wants them to be. But the team appears to be moving in the right direction after a miserable 2020, and that’s a start.
