Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers Report (Week 13): Waiver Wire Pickups, Streamers, Injury Updates & More - The Action Network

susilangs.blogspot.com

My dad taught me how to play the game of baseball. He tried at least because I could not hit a breaking ball to save my life, but it was valuable time spent with him. It was a unique process because he is a left-hander who batted right-handed, and I am the opposite. He was also the reason I hit lefties better than righties because he threw to me a lot.

My dad also gave me the gift of speed and a strong arm that benefitted me as I transitioned to softball with friends as I got older. He used to fill in on my teams when we were shorthanded despite being 30-plus years older than everyone else. Pops would be the only one most games to not record an out, and he could throw a knuckleball as our pitcher.

He also was on a dominant 16-inch softball team in his heyday, and I have seen the trophies and talked to former teammates that confirm his athletic prowess. He also received a professional tryout with the Cincinnati Reds approximately 50 years ago, the reason I know I will never top him in athletic achievements. I am okay with that.

In my eyes my dad is baseball and the reason I have the passion to write about it nearly every day.

Happy Father’s Day to you and yours, here or passed on, no matter what their passions are and what they helped you be better at.

Waiver Wire Adds/Streamers

Yusei Kikuchi – Seattle Mariners

Yahoo: 59%, ESPN: 64%

Seattle’s southpaw has not allowed three runs in a start since May 17 (five starts) and has improved his strikeout percentage for a third consecutive season.

Adbert Alzolay – Chicago Cubs

Yahoo: 45%, ESPN: 27%

He returns from the IL Monday to face the Cleveland Indians. Alzolay is the second best pitcher on a first place team.

Andrew Heaney – Los Angeles Angels

Yahoo: 63%, ESPN: 61%

Heaney had a three-game winning streak snapped June 15. During that streak he pitched at least 6 1/3 innings in each start. His walks continue to be a concern but his 75:20 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings is palatable.

Patrick Sandoval – Los Angeles Angels

Yahoo: 21%, ESPN: 25%

The 24-year old faltered in the Angels’ bullpen to start 2021 but has been excellent in the rotation. His 3.13 ERA is 3.01 runs below his reliever ERA, and his slugging percentage is nearly .200 points lower as a starter.

Tarik Skubal – Detroit Tigers

Yahoo: 46%, ESPN: 37%

Some longer outings would be nice, but his strikeouts are on the rise. Since May 19, the lefty has strikeout totals of 9-9-8-11-6-7 in only 33 innings.

Injuries

Jacob deGrom is considered day-to-day after having two doctors give him the same prognosis following an MRI. He is on schedule to start June 21.

Austin Gomber left his June 19 start with left forearm tightness. The removal was done out of an abundance of caution.

Danny Duffy is no longer experiencing forearm tightness and is moving closer to a return to the Royals rotation.

Justin Dunn landed on the 10-day IL with a shoulder strain.

Lefty Joey Lucchesi became the latest Met to land on the IL. He has left elbow inflammation.

Max Scherzer is on pace to start June 22. Stephen Straburg played catch in the outfield recently but has no timetable for a return.

Tyler Glasnow will be shut down for four weeks.

Despite no structural damage in his arm, Matthew Boyd will not pitch again before the All-Star break.

Two-Start Pitchers

This is a projected list. Starts are subject to change and not all starters have been named.

Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman (NYM) – vs ATL, vs PHI

Tyler Mahle (CIN) – at MIN, vs ATL

Aaron Civale (CLE) – at CHC, at MIN

Frankie Montas and Cole Irvin (OAK) – at TEX, at SF

Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles (TEX) – vs OAK, vs KC

J.A. Happ (MIN) – vs CIN, vs CLE

Brett Anderson (MIL) – at ARI, vs COL

Yu Darvish (SD) – vs LAD, vs ARI

Zack Wheeler (PHI) – vs WSH, at NYM
