The Republican National Convention should play nonstop video of civil unrest in cities across the country during the entirety of their convention, said the co-founder of the Daily Wire.
During the outlet's Backstage podcast on Friday, commentator Jeremy Boreing told hosts Ben Shapiro, Andrew Klavan, and Michael Knowles that the Republican National Committee should use its prime-time coverage to play clips of riots from Portland, Seattle, and other areas wracked by violence.
"Since they played all eight hours in prime-time of the DNC, they have to play the RNC. I think that they should put two giant screens up, and no matter who is speaking, during the national anthem, the benediction, the president's speech, and the vice president's speech, the entire time, they should be playing footage of the riots in Portland, in Seattle, and the CHAZ zone, and all the violence that's happening all across the country," Boreing said.
Boreing, who did not support President Trump in 2016 but plans to vote for him in the upcoming election, noted that outlets have pulled away from the White House's press briefings in the past when they displayed graphic content of riots but said it would put media in a Catch-22 scenario. They'd either be required to give the same coverage to the RNC as they did the DNC, he said, or pull away from the convention and assist Trump's electoral chances.
"Here's my theory. People actually vote ... on the basis of how a candidate makes them feel," Boreing said, providing examples of how previous presidents made the public feel secure or noble in their vote during their campaigns.
"Donald Trump made people feel empowered in 2016. He made people feel like they could have a voice when they hadn't had one before. But his behavior since then makes people feel insecure because he's bombastic, boorish," he continued.
Boreing said if the GOP presents the election as a referendum on Trump, he will lose. However, if he makes the election a referendum on the governance of Democrats amid unrest and coronavirus, he said Trump will win.
"Donald Trump needs to understand that he doesn't need to 'win' this election. He needs to 'not lose' it," Boreing later added.
