Back in 2015, Tom Hardy’s Mad Max: Fury Road blew audiences away. Many claimed it was one of the best action movies ever, potentially even among the top films of all time—people loved it. With all that praise, it’s almost strange that there won’t be another film in the franchise until 2024—nearly a decade later.
This time around, it’ll be a prequel, one focusing on the character originally played by Charlize Theron. Anya Taylor-Joy will get the privilege of playing a younger version of her, as the story theoretically explores how she grew into the position audiences found her at the beginning of Fury Road.
Joining her will be none other than Chris Hemsworth, star of the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder. This time around, he’ll be the main villain of the piece, a drastic departure from his heroic days protecting Midgard.
Now, new photos have made their way online showing the actor on set and in costume—and boy, does he look different.
Chris Hemsworth's Furiosa Costume Revealed
The Daily Mail shared new images of MCU star Chris Hemsworth on the set of Furiosa, the upcoming Mad Max spin-off starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actor was previously seen on the set of the George Miller-helmed film sporting a vibrant ginger beard and hairdo, but Hemsworth appears much older and scruffier than those prior images:

Hemsworth's currently unnamed character is also sporting a flamboyant golden jacket, an outfit that fits right into the desert wastelands.
The Thor star can be seen riding a suped-up monster truck with various horns attached to the top, mimicking the designs seen in Mad Max: Fury Road while appearing less over the top, perhaps due to Furiosa being a prequel:

How Will Hemsworth Bring the Fury?
While any plot details are hard to surmise from the above photos alone, at least it seems that the visual style is being kept consistent with Tom Hardy’s previous outing in the universe.
Fans are likely looking forward to seeing Chris Hemsworth play the bad guy this time around, especially after years of embodying Thor in the MCU. Given the actor's unexpected range, which can be seen in his masterful comedic gifts, he’ll undoubtedly aim to impress.
But what will his place be in the wider Mad Max universe? Will he be directly related to Tom Hardy’s titular character in any way or any of the events seen in the 2015 film?
Furiosa is set to premiere in theaters on May 24, 2024.
