Within the next month, millions of Americans will get direct payments of up to $1,682 from two checks, with the first check arriving on September 1.
Millions of American retirees and people with disabilities rely on Social Security Supplemental Income, which consists of these two benefits totaling up to $841. However, the highest payment is only $841, and the typical monthly benefit is only $624.
The first of the month is when SSI users typically receive their benefits, but because October 1 falls on a weekend, Americans will instead receive a second payment on September 30.
Only December and April will also have beneficiaries get two payments in a single month. September 1, September 30, November 1, December 1, and ultimately December 30 are set aside for the remaining payments for 2022.
Who can get the SSI?
The Social Security Administration's (SSASSI) program aids low-income or blind and disabled adults over the age of 65.
Your assets, however, will determine whether you are eligible or not. To meet the requirements, an individual cannot have more than $2,000 in assets, while a couple may have up to $3,000.
A few exceptions apply to the objects you possess, including the following:
- Less than $1,500 in face value life insurance plans
- Your vehicle (usually)
- Burial plots for you and your close family members
- Up to $1,500 in cash for your funeral and up to $1,500 in funds for your spouse's funeral
- Your residence and its surroundings
