When the New York Giants traded back in the 2021 NFL draft, it gave the Chicago Bears the opportunity to select who they hope is their long-term solution at quarterback in Justin Fields.

The move, which gave general manager Dave Gettleman the nickname “Trader Dave,” could certainly pay dividends in both the near and long-term future.

Kadarius Toney, who the Giants ended up selecting at the Bears’ original draft slot, may end up being a gem if he can stay healthy. Big Blue also acquired the Bears’ 2022 first-round pick in the exchange.

With the Giants owning two first round picks in the upcoming draft, Big Blue is poised to make a splash — a crucial draft for the team. And with both the Bears and Giants playing sub-.500 football, Big Blue is currently slated to have two top 10 picks.

With that type of draft capital, it leaves Gettleman (or whoever the general manager is come draft night 2022) options in the first round.

Our friends over at Draft Wire recently shared their latest mock draft which has the Giants bolstering their offensive line and hopefully fixing that disaster once and for all.

With their first first-round pick, the Giants nab offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu.

8. New York Giants North Carolina State OT Ikem Ekwonu

Whether Daniel Jones is the future or not, this offensive line needs help if the Giants are going to have any sustained success on offense, and Ekwonu can play multiple positions at a high level.

With their second first-round pick, the Giants then select center Tyler Linderbaum.

9. New York Giants (from CHI) Iowa C Tyler Linderbaum

Oh, you don’t think Dave Gettleman would use back-to-back top-10 picks on offensive linemen, including a center? He would, and Linderbaum is the rare center prospect who deserves this slot.

This isn’t the first mock this week that includes the Giants selecting Linderbaum…

With these two potential additions plus the emerging and improving Andrew Thomas, the Giants would hope to have finally addressed their offensive line and created something to build around for years to come.

Of course, with just a little less than half a season to go for Big Blue, things can change in a hurry if the Giants and/or Bears start climbing the standings. With the futures of Dave Gettleman, Joe Judge and Daniel Jones anything but secure, not only can the Giants draft position of the two first round picks change but the Giants’ needs and/or philosophy may change as well.
