The 2022 NFL draft is still nine months away, but it’s never too early to start making mock drafts.

The Jets currently have 11 picks in the 2022 draft, including two picks in the first round and two picks in the second round. One of the first-round picks came from the Seahawks in the trade that sent Jamal Adams to Seattle. The second of the two second-round picks was acquired in the trade that sent Sam Darnold to the Panthers.

New York also has multiple draft choices in the fifth and sixth rounds, but Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling kept his new 2022 projections to just two rounds. Let’s see who he thinks the Jets could pick.

Pick No. 5: Notre Dame S Kyle Hamilton

Syndication: The Indianapolis Star

If the Jets were to draft a safety in the first round of next year’s draft, it would likely be because Marcus Maye’s tenure in New York had come to an end.

Hamilton has put up strong numbers in his two seasons at Notre Dame so far. He has 104 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 12 pass breakups, five interceptions and one touchdown in 24 career games.

Pick No. 23: Florida CB Kaiir Elam

Syndication: The Tennessean

Cornerback is the weakest unit on the Jets defense right now, so it wouldn’t come as a shock if they address the position high in the draft next year.

Elam has 49 total tackles, one tackle for loss, 15 pass defenses, four interceptions and one fumble recovery in 20 collegiate games. He was SEC All-Freshman in 2019 and Second-team All-SEC in 2020.

Pick No. 37: Ole Miss OL Nick Broeker

It wouldn’t be a Joe Douglas draft if an offensive lineman was not taken.

But Broeker has played the majority of his Ole Miss career at left tackle, making him an interesting choice for New York. He allowed just one sack in pass-blocking snaps in 2019 and was All-SEC Fourth-Team in 2020.

Pick No. 42: Utah LB Devin Lloyd

The Jets don’t have any long-term answers at inside linebacker, so Draft Wire has the Jets taking Utah’ Devin Lloyd in the second round.

Lloyd has been All-Pac 12 twice and was a Butkus Award and Pop Warner College Football Award Finalist in 2020. He has 145 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble in 33 career games.
