Benedict Cumberbatch has found another wizard's robe to slip into. Director Colin Trevorrow reportedly is set to direct the actor in War Magician, per Deadline.The long-gestating Studiocanal project will be written by Nicholas Mariani and is based on the book of the same name by David Fisher.
War Magician will follow the story of Jasper Maskelyne, an illusionist who volunteered in the British Army during World War II. Stationed in Egypt, Maskelyne used his methods to develop camouflage for vehicles, fake bomb craters, and create a dummy army to deceive the Axis forces.
Cumberbatch has been attached to the project since 2015, even before he began his tenure as the MCU's resident sorcerer Doctor Strange. The actor will reprise that role in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to be released on March 25, 2022. Recently, Cumberbatch shot down Star Wars fans' hopes that he would play Grand Admiral Thrawn in an upcoming project, admitting he had no idea who the character is before saying "There's no way I want to be turned blue." Trevorrow has also been a much-discussed topic amongst Star Wars fans. The director was originally attached to direct Episode 9, which would've been titled "Star Wars: Duel of the Fates." A fan recently adapted a leaked script from the axed project into a comic book.Trevorrow is also attached to direct a science-fiction thriller about the underwater city of Atlantis for Universal. Additionally, the filmmaker has been busy helming Jurassic World: Dominion through various COVID-19 safety protocols. The production wrapped its 18-month production in November and will bow on June 10, 2022. The film has been teased as a "culmination" of all six Jurassic movies, with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Omar Sy, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill all reprising their roles from previous entries.
