Running Backs
Mike Davis, Panthers (0.1 rostered on NFL.com): The former Seahawk will become Carolina's main RB while McCaffrey is out, which is expected to be four to six weeks. Seahawks fans will recall how Davis took advantage of some opportunities in 2018, when he rushed for 101 yards in late September and had three rushing TDs in his third and fourth games of the season. He also totaled 187 yards from scrimmage in the first two games of November and caught eight passes for 63 yards in a mid-December outing. Davis is versatile, and he has good vision. He runs with power and can break tackles. Davis at figures to be at least a good flex play for a month-plus. He caught eight passes for 74 yards in Week 2.
Jerick McKinnon, 49ers (15.7): Raheem Mostert was looking like he was continuing to build on his incredible performance in last season's NFC Championship Game before he suffered a knee injury on Sunday. McKinnon stepped in and ripped off a 55-yard run and also added a TD. He now has two scores in two games and looks to be recovered from some major knee issues that robbed him of the two previous seasons. He may share time in the 49ers backfield, but McKinnon will continue to be needed to catch passes as the Niners deal with some other offensive injuries and concerns. He has some upside as a possible flex play.
Myles Gaskin, Dolphins (1.4): Miami acquired Matt Breida and Jordan Howard in the offseason in hopes of bolstering their backfield, yet it has been Gaskin who has been the most impressive performer so far. He caught eight passes and totaled 82 yards from scrimmage in Week 2. Gaskin has operated well in open space and could actually turn out to be the most productive Dolphins Fantasy RB from their committee. He is worth a depth add and may be useful when the bye weeks begin.
Brian Hill, Falcons (0.1): Here is an example of a player you should add because he appears to be the top NFL backup to one of your starters. Hopefully, Todd Gurley will remain healthy, but if he does not, Hill will be the first in line to take over the lead RB role at any time. After seeing the mostly highly regarded pair of RBs go down in Week 2, you should also add essential depth players at the position in case of a Fantasy emergency. Other injury insurance targets at the position include Chase Edmonds, Jamaal Williams, Royce Freeman, Darrel Williams and Duke Johnson. The clear NFL backup to your best RB starters may not always be available on the free agent wire or fully clear on a depth chart. But in situations where the "insurance" player is available and identifiable, make the move for safety's sake.
