Fantasy football Week 4 waiver wire WRs: Tee Higgins, Hunter Renfrow, Justin Jefferson, others - PennLive

A look at wide receivers on the waiver wire for Week 4 in fantasy football leagues, ranked in our projection of lowest to highest priority.

5. Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco 49ers: Aiyuk had a big day when the 49ers needed playmakers to rise to the occasion in Week 4, catching five passes for 70 yards and rushing for 31 yards and a touchdown. San Francisco was without running back Raheem Mostert and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and leaned on a new supporting cast to beat the Giants on the road. Aiyuk is a talented player in a situation that could lend itself to opportunities again in Week 4, so he commands attention with an eye toward the injury situation in the rest of the 49ers offense. If the chances are there again, Kyle Shanahan’s attack should yield value for Aiyuk on Sunday against the Eagles.

4. Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders: Renfrow brings back shades of Wes Welker because of his frame and skill set, but that comparison is wildly ambitious until Renfrow shows he commands elite volume in the Raiders offense. He has shown glimpses of being that guy with 35 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns over the final seven games of last season. The Raiders went out and acquired two talented rookies in the draft, which threatened his spot in Derek Carr’s pecking order, but Week 3 showed what Renfrow can be with a steady stream of targets. He hauled in six of the nine he got for 84 yards and a touchdown with Henry Ruggs out and Bryan Edwards exiting early with an injury. Ruggs is questionable for Week 4 and Edwards is out, which should clear a path for Renfrow to again play an expanded role.

3. Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals: There’s volume to be had in the Cincinnati offense, which has attempted the second-most passes (141) in the NFL through three weeks. That dynamic is unlikely to change, and Higgins is a talented rookie trending up in his usage in the offense. He has eight catches (on 15 targets) for 75 yards and two touchdowns over the past two games, including career-highs in catches (5), targets (9), yards (40) and touchdowns (2) in last week’s tie with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bengals are chucking it and veteran A.J. Green has looked two steps slow early in the season, so the door appears to be open for Higgins to keep playing a role as a frequent target for rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. He’s worth owning and should be busy again this week against the Jaguars.

2. Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers: The way the Packers offense is rolling, it’s wise to try and grab any viable piece of it. Lazard is a hot commodity this week after a monster day in a win over the Saints with six catches (on eight targets) for 146 yards and a touchdown. His future role is dependent upon the health of Davante Adams, who sat last week with a hamstring injury, but Lazard could also take control of his own future by continuing to rise to the occasion for Aaron Rodgers. Adams' return has a chance to cramp Lazard’s style, but that might not be much of a threat this week against a Falcons defense that has been abused by opposing wideouts. Lazard is a high-upside FLEX in a worst-case and a viable starter in most formats if Adams sits.

1. Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings: Jefferson exploded onto the scene with a monster day in the Vikings' Week 3 loss to Tennessee with seven catches (on nine targets) for 175 yards and a touchdown. It was the first of hopefully many big days in the talented rookie’s future and should be viewed as a legitimate performance. Jefferson can play and is in a Vikings offense with a great need for another pass-catcher emerge to complement the skills of Adam Thielen. Jefferson was wildly productive his final season at LSU with 111 catches for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns, and his Week 3 blowup should inspire confidence that he can continue producing in Minnesota. Rookie wide receivers' struggles are well-documented and could apply here, but Jefferson is polished enough to believe he can stick around in the FLEX conversation for most of the year.
