The Rams’ march back to the playoffs begins on Sunday night against a team they’ve developed somewhat of a rivalry with despite being in different divisions. They’ll take on the Cowboys at SoFi Stadium, with both teams looking to start 1-0.

To preview the game, we caught up with Cowboys Wire editor K.D. Drummond, who answered five questions about Dallas and shared some intel on the new-look Cowboys.

1 How big of a loss is La’el Collins for the Cowboys in this game?

Huge. I’ve spoken the entire offseason about how much Collins had closed the gap between himself and Tyron Smith on the opposite end. Collins was a Pro Bowl snub in 2019, and all signs pointed to him ascending into that tier in the public’s eyes in 2020. He reportedly came in out of shape. The biggest issue is that the rest of the depth chart at tackle has been injured, including journeyman Cam Erving. Prescott is going to be doing a lot of rolling out to his left Sunday night; something he’s capable of doing, but we’d rather he have the option instead of being forced.

2 Do you expect Ezekiel Elliott to still dominate the workload at RB or will Tony Pollard be mixed in more often this year?

Yes and yes. Elliott will get more work, but the Cowboys are going to be aggressive. Without a true fullback on the roster, I expect Dallas to run some 20 personnel with both tailbacks in the game, though 11 personnel will be their mainstay. Both Pollard and Elliott should be key parts of the passing game this year, so Zeke’s touches may look different through the first three quarters of the game.

3 We know about Dallas’ stars on offense, but who’s a lesser-known player the Rams have to worry about on defense?

Rams fans will hopefully get a taste of safety Xavier Woods. There was a debacle in free agency trying to find someone to play next to him, and late signing Brandon Carr may take that role for Week 1, but Woods has the chance to be a star. A smaller in stature hard-hitter, Woods has the ability to make plays on the ball as well. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him show up in the highlight reel when all is said and done.

4 What’s the biggest difference you expect to see from Jason Garrett to Mike McCarthy?

Aggression on early downs with more passing. Aggressive on late downs in going for it and not settling for 60-yard field goals. Being prepared out the gate. Adjustments at halftime. Personality. Winning. Oh wait, you said the biggest difference… multiple playoff wins in the same season.

5 Who wins on Sunday and why?

If the Cowboys can overcome the short offseason with no exhibitions – a big “if” with a new coaching staff in the weirdest NFL summer ever – then they should emerge victorious. The Rams secondary won’t be able to keep up with three No. 1 receivers; most NFL defenses won’t be able to either. 35-30 Dallas.
