A's Chapman out for season

Oakland All-Star third baseman Matt Chapman is expected to miss the rest of the season because of a strained right hip. Chapman was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, two days before he is scheduled to undergo surgery in Vail, Colo. Chapman hasn't played since leaving hurt in the fifth inning of Oakland's game last Sunday against San Diego. He was a first-time All-Star last season, when he won a Gold Glove for the second year in a row. In 37 games overall this season, Chapman hit .232 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI. He hit only .120 (3 for 25) with 17 strikeouts and 1 walk in his last eight games.

Twins reliever suspended

Twins reliever Sergio Romo was suspended for one game by Major League Baseball on Saturday for jawing with Indians star Francisco Lindor. Romo and Lindor also were fined for the incident, which occurred during Minnesota's 3-1 victory Friday night. Romo worked a perfect eighth, retiring Lindor on an inning-ending flyout. Romo and Lindor exchanged words as the shortstop ran toward first, and then the two walked toward each other before they were separated by teammates.

Day, Daly in Champions mix

Steve Stricker and Miguel Angel Jimenez shared the lead going into the final round of the Sanford International, with Fred Couples, Darren Clarke and Kevin Sutherland a shot behind after a low-scoring day. The only player at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, S.D., set to play next week in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, Stricker birdied the par-5 16th and par-4 18th on Saturday for a 6-under 64 to post at 9-under 131. Both Glen Day (Little Rock) and John Daly (Dardanelle, Arkansas Razorbacks) are in the top 11. Day is tied for sixth place after firing a 64 on Saturday. He is at 7-under 133 after two days. Daly shot a 66 on Saturday and is tied for 11th at 134. Ken Duke (Arkadelphia, Henderson State) is tied for 21st. Duke also shot a 66 on Saturday and is at 4-under 136.

Two tied for ANA lead

Brooke Henderson tied a Mission Hills record with a 30 on the front nine and did just enough the rest of the round Saturday for a 7-under 65 and a share of the lead with Nelly Korda in the ANA Inspiration in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Henderson started the weekend six shots behind and wanted to get as close to the lead as possible. Now she goes into the final round with a second major championship in her sights. Korda began with a two-shot lead and fell three shots back with a rough stretch on the front nine, particularly the sixth hole by hitting 5-wood through the fairway into the gnarly rough and not getting over the water, leading to double bogey. She rallied with three birdies on the back nine, however, for a 71 that allowed her to join Henderson at 12-under 204. They have a two-shot lead over Lexi Thompson (69), Mirim Lee (71) and Katherine Kirk, who quietly went about her business with a 67 that landed the Australian in the final group. Stacy Lewis (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 67 on Saturday and is at 8-under 208 and tied for 17th. Gaby Lopez (Razorbacks) is tied for 49th. She shot a 69 on Saturday and is at even-par 216. Maria Fassi (Razorbacks) fired a 72 on Saturday and is at 1-over 217.

Three share Safeway lead

Brian Stuard closed with a scrambling birdie for a 6-under 66 and share of the Safeway Open lead Saturday with James Hahn and Cameron Percy. On a day when eight players held or shared the lead, the trio of Stuard, Hahn and Percy emerged in front despite all three running into trouble at various times at Silverado Resort. The three are at 16-under 200. Austin Cook (Jonesboro, Arkansas Razorbacks) is tied for 58th place. Cook shot a 71 on Saturday and is at 6-under 210.

Thompson ahead by 3 shots

Curtis Thompson leads the Korn Ferry Tour Evans Scholars Invitational after firing a 4-under 68 on Saturday. Thompson is at 11-under 201 and is three shots ahead of five others at 204. Matt Atkins (Henderson State) shot a 71 on Saturday and is at 207. Taylor Moore (Arkansas Razorbacks) fired a 70 on Saturday and stands at 208. Nicolas Echavarria (Razorbacks) turned in a 74 on Saturday and has a 213 total. David Lingmerth (Razorbacks) shot an 80 on Saturday and is at 220.

Rams, Kupp reach deal

Receiver Cooper Kupp has agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2023 with the Los Angeles Rams. Neither the team nor Kupp's management immediately disclosed the financial terms of the deal reached Saturday. Kupp has been a steady, productive receiver since the Rams chose him in the third round of the 2017 draft. He was Los Angeles' top pass-catcher last season, leading the team with 94 receptions for 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Power posts IndyCar victory

Will Power scored his first win of the season in a 1-2 finish for Team Penske on Saturday in the first race of a doubleheader at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Power beat teammate Josef Newgarden, the reigning IndyCar champion, by more than 7 seconds in winning from the pole. Power earned his 60th career pole earlier Saturday and trails only Mario Andretti (67) for the IndyCar record. Alexander Rossi, stuck in a miserable season, finished third. It was just his second podium finish of the year and second for the entire Andretti Autosport organization. Scott Dixon entered the doubleheader with a shot at mathematically clinching his sixth series championship by the end of the weekend. But he qualified an uncharacteristic 17th and had to scramble to make up ground. Dixon, both the defending winner at Mid-Ohio and the series' winningest driver at the road course with six victories, rallied to finish 10th.

Allgaier completes sweep

Justin Allgaier saw a more than 9-second lead evaporate when a late caution flag flew, but he pulled away again on a restart with 13 laps to go to complete a sweep of a NASCAR Xfinity series doubleheader weekend at Richmond Raceway on Saturday. Allgaier, who lost the lead when he had trouble on a previous restart, had no such issues starting on the inside last with Jeb Burton to his outside and Ross Chastain behind him. He quickly moved in front entering Turn One and pulled away in a dominant performance. The victory was his third of the season. Burton held on for second, followed by Chastain, Harrison Burton and Justin Haley.

Andersen wins Stage 14

In the fast-changing finish to the latest Tour de France stage, the lead was seized and lost in waves of attacks by French and Sunweb team riders on the up-and-down roads of Lyon. Each move on short, sharp climbs was quickly marked by sprint specialist Peter Sagan eyeing the win, as the yellow jersey of Primoz Roglic stayed safe and alert in the main pack. Then the wide-open Stage 14 was sealed by a decisive burst by Soren Kragh Andersen, breaking clear with 2 miles to go as Sunweb's tactics proved perfect on Saturday. The rider from Denmark cruised to his biggest career win. In a stellar Tour for Slovenia, Luka Mezgec crossed 15 seconds later to take the sprint for second, and Simon Consonni was third. Overall leader Roglic had a drama-free, 4 1/2-hour ride to keep the yellow jersey he claimed last Sunday. The former ski jumper stayed 44 seconds ahead of his fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, and 59 clear of Egan Bernal, the defending champion.
