There are some running backs widely available that either have good matchups heading into Week 2 or had successful Week 1 performances under a new offense. With that in mind, here are six RBs with under 50% ownership at traditional fantasy football leagues that managers can consider picking up in their leagues.
If you are in a PPR league, Hines is a priority add this week. Yes, with Marlon Mack out, Jonathan Taylor gets a big boost, but Hines was already a big part of the offense before Mack’s injury and should continue to be. We can’t count on his touchdowns, but with Philip Rivers at the helm, it looks like we can count on the receptions. If you take away his seven rushing attempts, he still caught 7-of-8 targets for 45 yards and a touchdown, which is a perfect flex play.
Snell rushed 19 times for 113 yards in relief for an injured James Conner on Monday night. But, even before Conner left with an ankle injury, Snell looked to be crisper and faster than the oft-injured Conner. Conner’s ankle injury doesn’t have a time table for recovery yet, but it felt like Snell might have humped him in the depth chart.
Kelley quickly pushed ahead of Justin Jackson in Week 1 and landed a big role behind Austin Ekeler. He ended up with 12 rushing attempts for 60 yards and a touchdown. The Chargers schedule also looks good for the rushing attack, as they face the Chiefs and Panthers over the next two weeks.
Brown isn’t a priority add, as Cam Akers isn’t likely to go away, but he proved himself enough to consider him the nominal starter moving forward in what appears to be an improved offense. Unfortunately, the Rams schedule isn’t looking great for the run game with the Eagles next up.
McKinnon ran ahead of Tevin Coleman and did well with his eight opportunities, as he turned six touches into 44 yards and a touchdown. Coleman likely saw his workload reduced because of the air quality, so it’s tough to get a good read on the situation, but McKinnon proved he needs to continue seeing work as a runner and receiver.
Peterson had a great game on Sunday, as he wasn’t the starter, but played into that position over Kerryon Johnson while D’Andre Swift worked mainly as the receiving back. His upside will likely be within reach in games where the Lions have a lead throughout the game, but he did see three receptions for 21 yards to go along with his 14 carries for 93 yards. Swift oddly saw a one-yard touchdown run, but I’d expect Peterson to get those more often. Packers, Cardinals and Saints are next up.
Deep League Adds
Peyton Barber, Washington (3 percent), Myles Gaskin, Dolphins (1 percent), Josh Adams, Jets (0 percent), Carlos Hyde, Seahawks (10 percent)
