Running Backs

Nyheim Hines, Colts (1.6% rostered on NFL.com): Hines was the biggest Fantasy surprise performer of Week 1, as the finished fourth among RBs through Sunday with 27.3 points. Philip Rivers is well-known for turning pass-catching RBs into quality Fantasy producers, and Hines is his most established receiver out of the backfield. He caught eight passes in the Colts opener and scored two TDs, one as a runner and another as a receiver. He will continue to operate as a notable player in a time share for the Colts with Jonathan Taylor after Marlon Mack suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Hines should be at least a viable flex option going forward.

Malcolm Brown, Rams (6.6%): He looked like Los Angeles' best RB on Sunday night, placing as RB5 overall after the day's games with 26 Fantasy points. Brown ran with authority and totaled 110 yards from scrimmage with two rushing scores. The Rams will eventually turn to rookie Cam Akers to take over a larger role, but Brown certainly looks like their best lead option for now. Brown will require week-to-week evaluation as Akers progresses, yet he is worth flex consideration in the short term.

Joshua Kelley, Chargers (1.2%): This promising rookie was an afterthought to many Fantasy players in the preseason. But he impressed the coaching staff in training camp and appears ticketed to take over a good portion of Melvin Gordon's former role, especially as an inside and goal-line runner. Kelley rushed for 60 yards and a TD in his pro debut. He showed off good vision, the ability to make defenders miss, and was a prime option for Los Angeles near the goal line. Kelley will continue to operate in a time share and is another recommended addition to get into your flex mix.

Adrian Peterson, Lions (39.3%): He continues to attempt to quiet those who have predicted his ultimate demise. The future Hall of Famer refused to fade away when his Vikings tenure ended, and he showed he was still not done on Sunday, 10 days after he was released by Washington. Peterson rushed for 93 yards on 14 carries for Detroit, looking like he was about seven to eight years younger than his true age of 35. Peterson still runs with great vision, has quick feet and continues to show off the ability to elude defenders. He may continue to be the lead back for the Lions until rookie D'Andre Swift emerges as more of a consistent presence.
