Wolverines Secure 18th Big Ten Championship in Wire-to-Wire Fashion

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The second-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team secured the 18th Big Ten Championship in program history in wire-to-wire fashion with a team score of 411.000 on Saturday night (April 3) at Nebraska's Pinnacle Bank Arena. Senior Cameron Bock tied for the all-around win and also took titles on pommel horse and still rings.
The title, U-M's first since 2014, also was held in Lincoln. Head coach Kurt Golder took home the fifth Big Ten Coach of the Year honor in his 25-year career. Sophomore Paul Juda also excelled on the night, placing second on parallel bars (14.200) and high bar (13.950) and took third in the all-around (83.350).
The Wolverines began the quest for the Big Ten title on vault, scoring a 71.200 for a new season high on the table. Bock led Michigan with a 14.500 to take third, and sophomore Casey Cummings scored a 14.300 to place ninth. After one rotation, U-M led Iowa by .700 points.
On parallel bars in the second rotation, U-M scored a 67.300. Freshman Evgeny Siminiuc scored a solid 13.900 to place third, while Juda marked a 14.200 for his second-place finish.
On high bar, sophomore Adam Wooten scored a career-high 13.700 to take fifth,, while Bock (13.800) placed third and and Juda took second (13.950). U-M scored a 68.250 on the event, a new season best, and led the meet by a huge 7.05 points after three rotations.
In the second spot on floor exercise, senior Nick Guy had a 14.000 to place fifth, while Bock took sixth (14.350). Juda (14.250) and senior Jacob Moore (14.200) also surpassed the 14.000-plateau. In all, U-M scored a 70.800 to maintain a huge 12.10-point lead with a team score of 277.550.
Following a bye, the Wolverines took to pommel horse, where Bock blew away the competition with a 14.350 for the event win. The Wolverines marked a 65.750 and boasted a team score of 343.300, going into the final rotation on still rings.
Still rings saw U-M close out the victory with a team total of 67.700, with Bock securing his third title of night with a 14.000 on the event. Graduate student Thomas Paul also chipped in a 13.650.
U-M took the win by 13 points, the largest margin of victory in a Big Ten Championship since 1977. Host Nebraska took second in the meet with a team score of 398.000.
Juda and Bock were named All-Big Ten First Team, while Siminiuc earned a spot on the second team.

Next up, Michigan will set its sights on the NCAA Championships and the NCAA Selection Show on Tuesday (April 6). U-M will then participate in the NCAA Qualifier on Friday (April 16) in Minneapolis, Minn., at either 1 or 6 p.m. CDT.
