Carrying a concealed weapon (felony), improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability, warrant served: Orange Place

Police had a blue 2004 Ford F-15 pickup truck under surveillance outside the Extended Stay North on March 23 after an officer ran the plate and found a full-extradition probation violation felony warrant for the owner through the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department.

Police then saw a man matching the description go to the truck around 11:45 a.m., open it and reach around inside, emerging carrying a jacket. He was soon ordered to the ground and asked if he had any weapons.

The Garfield Heights man, 23, said he only had a folding knife on his person, but police found a loaded Springfield Army Hellcat 9mm pistol concealed in the jacket he had thrown aside, with 8 rounds in the magazine.

He was turned over to the sheriff’s department and police impounded the truck, finding a loaded Taurus G3 9mm handgun with 17 rounds, one chambered, along with a dozen 9mm cartridges and two spent casings.

The case was forwarded to the county Prosecutor’s Office for a possible direct indictment on weapons charges.

Assist fire department; utilities - public; damage to public property: Hidden Valley Drive

Police responded around 8 a.m. on March 22 to assist firefighters with live wires across the residential roadway after they were knocked down by a private garbage truck -- found in the street with one cable under its front loader in the down position.

The driver, a Cleveland man, 44, said he had been doing the route for four years without incident, adding that the utility lines appeared to be lower that day than in the past. He said he was unable to avoid a collision.

There were additional cables in the roadway behind the truck as well as a snapped utility pole. Some of the wires were attached directly to a house, where the electrical meter box and conduit had been pulled off, with the resident asking for restitution.

The Orange Service Department barricaded both sides of the street and the electric company was contacted by village firefighters to have a crew sent out to restore power with affected residents notified.

After stopping a 2010 Nissan Versa around 10:30 p.m. on March 24, it became evident that the driver, a Euclid woman, 39, was having a medical emergency. Orange medics arrived and took her to Ahuja Medical Center for additional care and her car was towed.

A Cleveland woman, 35, whose family had been staying at the Extended Stay South for about a month called police at noon on March 23 to report that her son, 15, the subject of a March 12 report for unruliness, had been missing since 9 a.m. the previous day.

Disturbance, unwanted guest: Orange Place

Police and Extended Stay South management told a Lyndhurst woman, 60, around 8:15 a.m. on March 25 that she would face trespassing charges if she returned to the hotel, after complaints of screaming and sounds of someone possibly being thrown into a wall were received overnight.

The hotel door was breached after she did not answer it, and police found her inside on her cell phone, appearing to be unharmed. She became argumentative when they asked her why she would not answer the door or the phone in the room.

Fraud: Brainard Road

A resident, 55, came to the police station on March 24 to request a report for her employer after being informed that someone had made a fraudulent unemployment request in her name to the state. She was also advised to visit the website of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and make a report there as well.
