UCSB suffered a heartbreaking 92-90 loss to second-seed UC Irvine in a thrilling, action-packed women's quarterfinal game of the Big West Tournament at the Michelob Ultra Arena in the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Resort on Wednesday.

The Gauchos had a chance to tie the score with two seconds left in regulation after Bri Anugwom was fouled while grabbing an offensive rebound off a missed shot by Danae Miller. Anugwom missed both free throws, and the Anteaters (14-8) rebounded to secure the victory and advance to the semifinals.

"If she doesn’t get an offensive rebound, we don’t have a chance," UCSB coach Bonnie Henrickson said of Anugwom's hustle. "Nobody wins or loses on a last possession. The fact she hustled and got in there, got an offensive rebound and tried to get (a shot) up to get to the free-throw line is more than we would have had if she didn't. I certainly want to be clear on that. Games are won or loss on 40 minutes of basketball."

UCSB ends the season at 7-14.

Haleigh Talbert of UC Irvine scored the game-winning basket on a drive with seven seconds left to break a 90-all tie.

Megan Anderson knotted the score at 90 with a clutch three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining.

Taylor Mole led UCSB with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Miller scored 18 points, Anderson had 16 off the bench and Doris Jones finished with 15 points.

The Gauchos made 49% from the floor (29-59) and 62% on three-pointers, knocking down a tournament record 18 out of 29 attempts. The previous record was 15 by UC Davis in 2015. Miller hit 5-7 from behind the arc and Mole made 4-6.

UC Irvine shot 56% for the game (33-59), and was 10-17 on three points (59%). Five Anteaters scored in double figures, led by Chloe Webb with 20 points. Jayde Cadee had 15 points, Sophia Locando and Talbert each scored 14 points, Victoria Baker added 12 and Dani Guglielmo 10 points.

The 182 combined points was the fourth-most in tournament history. The game marked the first time both teams scored more than 80 points in a Big West Tournament game since 1998 (UCSB def. Nevada 95-88 in OT).

"It's just a tough go all around," Mole said. "It should be our game to win, we scored enough points."
