HARWICH – Officials in Harwich were called to two nearly simultaneous incidents sometime after 9;30 AM Sunday. A Jeep reportedly struck a utility pole and rolled on its side on Mashpa Drive. The driver was critically injured and rushed to Barnstable Municipal Airport to meet a MedFlight helicopter for transport to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

About the same time, a primary wire also came down in the area of Route 124 and Long Pond Drive sparking a brush fire. Nearly 1,500 Eversource customers lost power because of both incidents. The location of the wire fire was some distance from the crash so it was not confirmed if it was related to the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Harwich Police.
