GovCon Wire to Host Expert Panel at Data Innovation Forum on June 15th - GovCon Wire

Information technology (IT) is becoming increasingly important through the Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC). The ability to swiftly and securely move data from different locations in a manageable manner is more critical than ever for our nation’s national security. 

During GovConWire’s  Data Innovation Forum, notable private and public sector executives will discuss the federal government’s modernization data strategy and the DOD’s defense data strategy, plans for commercial data, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging data processing technologies. 

The Forum will host an expert panel moderated by Randy Soper of Illuminate Mission Solutions (IMS), featuring Chris Borneman of Software AG Government Solutions, Thomas Sasala of the U.S. Navy (USN), Ron Bewtra of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Eileen Vidrine of the U.S. Air Force (USAF).

Moderator: Randy Soper

Soper is a lead data strategist for IMS. In this capacity, he leads the development of end-to-end data, analytic, and operations solutions for national security customers. He is a thought leader and implementation expert in human-machine teaming, AI assurance, digital transformation, and data science-mission integration.

Panelist: Chris Borneman 

Borneman serves as the chief technical officer at Software AG Government Solutions. He is responsible for defining technology requirements supporting the company’s business strategy within the federal markets.  

Borneman is highly experienced in designing and building cloud-based supply chain networks, managing integration-based modernization programs and performing various data center migrations and expansions within the aerospace and defense industry, 

Panelist: Thomas Sasala 

Sasala is the chief data officer for the Department of the Navy and leads the Navy’s efforts and initiatives on data management, information resources management, data governance, and Naval data policies. He is also in charge of implementing the OPEN Government Data Act, training the Naval workforce on data and data analytics, and making high-quality, timely data available to decision-makers and warfighters.

Panelist: Ron Bewtra

Bewtra is the chief technology officer of the DOJ and focuses on driving technology innovation by developing technology roadmaps that have included the inaugural Department-wide technical reference architecture and the DOJ’s data strategy. 

He also serves as the principal technology officer to the DOJ’s chief information officer and other senior leadership on critical technology projects. Bewtra has vast experience in engaging with the commercial industry by identifying technologies that accelerate and strengthen the missions of the DOJ.

Panelist: Eileen Vidrine

Vidrine is the Air Force’s chief data officer and develops and implements strategies for enterprise data management, analytics, and digital transformation to optimize performance and drive innovation in and across all missions and operations for the USAF.

The Data Innovation Forum’s keynote address will be delivered by David Spirk, chief data officer of the DOD. He will discuss the DOD’s defense data strategy, plans for commercial data, analytics, AI and emerging data processing technologies. Gregg Melanson, EVP and GM of IMS U.S. Operations, will introduce Spirk before his address.
