FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The daily summary of University of Arkansas news sent via email to students, faculty, staff and other subscribers now has a slighty shorter name: Arkansas News

While the word "wire" has been dropped from the end of the update's name, Arkansas Newswill continue to provide highlights of recently published university news and features available at news.uark.edu

The update's previous name, Arkansas Newswire, lasted for more than a decade and was a nod to the telegraph, which first allowed news to be relayed long distances via a wire.

"The name change is a subtle one but aligns more closely with the university's focus on the future while also helping to reinforce a recent policy change making news.uark.edu the university's primary source of news and information," said Mark Rushing, assistant vice chancellor for university relations. "The email previously served as the university's primary source of news but as the university has grown, the volume of news stories has increased dramatically as well, so that no longer makes sense.

"The email is basically overwhelming many readers due to the amount of stories it contains. And when readers are overwhelmed they tend to skip things and not retain other important information, so moving forward we're going to work on being more selective with Arkansas News content while also enhancing the customization of our news delivery," he said.

What you need to know about Arkansas News and news.uark.edu

  • News.uark.edu is the primary source for university news and information for internal and external audiences.
  • The university's news content is compiled, edited and produced by the Office of University Relations.

Questions, suggestions and subscriber requests should be sent to news@uark.edu

The changes to Arkansas News and news.uark.edu are part of a broad update to Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 325.0 — University Communications, Brand and Mass Email Usage

The updated policy addresses communications standards, practices and protocols for all colleges, schools, academic and administrative units across the University of Arkansas campus with the exception of the Department of Athletics, which operates under its own communication, brand and mass email guidelines.
