The next Final Destination movie is back on track with its directors in place. THR reports that New Line's Final Destination 6 has secured Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to co-direct the feature film. The directing duo had previously worked on the 2018 movie Freaks, which garnered pretty strong reviews. Lipovsky's other directing credits include Leprechaun: Origins and Dead Rising: Watchtower while Stein has directed episodes for the Disney XD series Mech-X4 and worked on Fraggle Rock with Lipovsky. Lipovsky and Stein also co-directed the Disney Channel's live-action Kim Possible movie.

Final Destination 6 is described as a relaunch of the franchise with original producer Craig Perry on board to produce with Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, and Dianne McGunigle. Watts, who directed Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies, also wrote the treatment for the new film with Buy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor (Ready or Not, Scream) writing the screenplay.

Reportedly, there had been more than 200 candidates hoping to direct Final Destination 6, but Lipovsky and Stein certainly went the extra mile with their pitch to secure the job. They set up a Zoom call with New Line executives and producers that had utilized pre-recorded footage and visual effects to make it appear as if they had been caught up in their own Final Destination story. From the THR report, here's how the Zoom meeting went down:

The duo made their pitch to New Line execs and producers together, with a burning fireplace behind them. As they wrapped up the meeting, the fire came alive and the mantel began burning. The filmmakers stopped and, after a tense moment, quickly extinguished the flames. As they sat down, everyone relieved the accident had passed, a wrenching creak was heard and suddenly, the whizzing ceiling fan broke off and flew down, decapitating one of the filmmakers.

New Line's brass was said to be concerned at first until they realized what was happening, resulting in "all-out laughter." With it now very clear how creative the two filmmakers are, coupled with their passion for the Final Destination brand, they became the obvious choice to co-direct Final Destination 6.

Final Destination Will Return After More Than a Decade

The Final Destination series began with the original film which was released in the year 2000. This would be followed by Final Destination 2 in 2003, Final Destination 3 in 2006, The Final Destination in 2009, and Final Destination 5 in 2011. It's taken more than a decade but it appears that the franchise is now back on track with its co-directors in place for Final Destination 6.

The circumstances are different, but the theme all of the movies share is the same. They all begin with someone having a premonition of a catastrophic event claiming many lives, including their own, moments before it happens. Because Death doesn't like to be cheated, an unseen force comes to claim the lives of those who managed to escape due to the premonition.

Final Destination 6 does not yet have a premiere date.
