Disney+ Reveals Ms. Marvel's Historic TV Rating - The Direct

susilangs.blogspot.com

After Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios is set to bring its second new leading hero into the fold for Phase 4 with the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+. The TV show will be something of a change of pace from the year's earlier projects, with one of the MCU's youngest characters finding her place amongst Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Ms. Marvel's first trailer recently gave fans the first full look at Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan in a story focused on a teenager trying to find where she fits in her own universe and the world as a whole. While she'll certainly have her challenges to tackle and powerful villains in her way, this won't come with visuals and story beats that are as intense as what's been seen in recent months.

Sticking with that theme, every Phase 4 Marvel Studios series on Disney+ from has come with a TV-14 rating, which also matches the PG-13 rating attached to every MCU project to date.

Now, Ms. Marvel looks to be a different kind of MCU entry in that sense, along with everything else it brings to the table this year.

Ms. Marvel's Rating Revealed on Disney+

Disney+ revealed that Ms. Marvel will be rated TV-PG. If this rating sticks, this will mark the first time that any Marvel Studios movie or series has received a "Parental Guidance Suggested" age rating. Every MCU movie thus far has been rated PG-13 (Parents Strongly Cautioned), and every Disney+ show from Marvel Studios has been rated TV-14 (a television-equivalent PG-13 rating).

Notably, WandaVision was initially listed with a TV-PG rating on Disney+ before changing to a more-mature TV-14 rating upon its premiere.

The United States' TV-PG rating cautions against some language and violence, per the Parental TV guidelines:

"This program contains material that parents may find unsuitable for younger children. Many parents may want to watch it with their younger children. The theme itself may call for parental guidance and/or the program may contain one or more of the following: some suggestive dialogue (D), infrequent coarse language (L), some sexual situations (S), or moderate violence (V)."

A Different Disney+ Story for Ms. Marvel

The ratings for Marvel projects have been a hot topic in recent weeks, especially with the recent addition of the more mature Netflix shows like Daredevil and The Defenders on Disney+. This is on top of Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight within the MCU, which already delivered a level of brutality not seen in any of its predecessors.

While Moon Knight is setting the bar on the higher end of violence, it seems that Ms. Marvel may do the exact opposite by being more youth-friendly.

This rating was already teased to some extent in Ms. Marvel's first trailer by showing Kamala drawing doodles and daydreaming about the idea of being a superhero before she gets her powers. Since the heroine has never had much violence shown in her comic stories, it seems to make sense that her live-action debut will follow that same trend.

While the details of what makes Ms. Marvel TV-PG rather than TV-14 are still a mystery, there will almost certainly be less violence and adult themes than fans have seen from any MCU entry before. This shouldn't take away all the punching and kicking that fans are accustomed to seeing from Marvel Studios, but it will be another way the MCU adds something new to the mix.
