Adam Eaton played in Oriole Park at Camden Yards back in 2015, with the stadium empty, so he has some idea of what baseball is going to be like this season, when Major League Baseball’s 60-game 2020 campaign gets underway in two weeks. He ... didn’t really like it, like, at all.
“I did not enjoy the one game that I played in,” Eaton explained.
“Just the energy, the feel, the fans, we’ve discussed this. We’re nothing without our fans, I truly believe that the game is completely different.
“The emotion of the game, the momentum so to speak, of a fan base, or going into a place with the fan base against you. So it’s very difficult.”
And in the outfielder’s opinion, it’s going to get worse as things go along, assuming they do.
“I think the first week we’ll be fine,” Eaton told reporters in a Zoom call on Friday morning. “I think the weeks after that will be very challenging, but again, as professional athletes, as the guys in our clubhouse who have done it for a long time, I think it’s a challenge that we’re going to meet head on and try to make the most of the situation.”
