A California man pleaded guilty on Tuesday in federal court to a money scheme in which thousands of dollars were taken from Shreveport-Bossier ATMs.
Dennis Busch, 40, California, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with a scheme to use altered debit cards to make cash withdrawals from Capital One bank accounts.
Busch used altered, re-encoded Capital One debit cards to make the withdrawals from ATMs in Shreveport and Bossier City areas, per a news release from U.S. Attorney David Joseph's Office.
From Sept. 24, 2018, to Oct. 8, 2018, Busch took $33,838. From Aug. 13, 2019, to Aug. 22, 2019, he withdrew $28,207; during this time, he attempted to take about $44,634 over numerous transactions but was denied by the bank.
“Busch obtained the information of the Shreveport residents while he resided in California, and then traveled to the Shreveport area to commit the fraud. Throughout the scheme, Busch withdrew, or attempted to withdraw, approximately $106,679 in total,” read a news release.

Chief U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr., presided over the hearing. Sentencing was set for Oct. 20.
Busch faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
The case is being investigated by the United States Secret Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cadesby B. Cooper.
